Anybody know if Wardlow is the only bug screen maker?

Can I just get some fiberglass screen mesh, cut it to shape, sew on some binding and attach with beehive springs?

Any info on the subject is greatly appreciated.

I just roll down the windows and don't worry too much about the bugs. If they get too bad, just pick up the speed a little and blow them out. No screens needed.

  5. that's true, but he was talking about bug screens

Juliano's makes and sells them too. i bought one for my `36 and i'm not very happy with it and have never installed it...i see no way to avoid scratching the paint with the attaching clips they provide. and those grommets have no padding on them so they would scratch too. i wish i had got one from Wardlow..i had one of theirs on my `35 Ford and never got a scratch

    You're welcome. :)

    Good luck with the bugs.

  8. are we talking about bug screens that keep bugs from clogging up the fins of your radiator? or something else? bugs on my windshield or front fenders are fine , i just don't like them clogging up my radiator

Radiator. They're cut same size/shape as the grill insert. In my case a '32 Ford.

Bras are more elaborate and usually cover the whole nose, fenders, etc. with a mesh opening for the grill/radiator.

The bugs are a real pain in the ass to clean out of the radiator, so I thought maybe a bug screen would be a wise investment.

    To hijack just a little:
Is there anyplace besides Wardlow that sells the attachment springs?

  13. On my model A I just cut out some black fiberglass screen material and stuffed it into the grill shell. A small length of bare wire secures it. Hardly see it. Brushes off easy and if it gets really bad, put in new.

I was told by an old time rodder/shop owner/ mechanic that screens can cut the efficiency of the radiator by as much as 50%, but a friend found out that not cleaning the bugs out of the radiator and especially the area between the radiator and the a/c condensor, should you have one, can cause the same thing.

Make your own with fiberglass screen. Install grommets with vinyl or leather backing washers front and back. Have upholstery shop sew the binding. ROCKVALLEY sells the springs.

You think it might be that I've been on here 5 years longer than you? You didn't say for the radiator. So I mistakenly thought you wanted to keep the bugs off the paint.

If you wanna stay traditional, use the copper screen used to restore old houses.
