The ' Bravest of the Brave' - Johnny White.

Collecting a check and some hardware with Dizz Wilson for setting the 1/2 mile record (18.14) at Winchester 63.

Doing his best to hold off Len Sutton and Jimmy Clark, Milwaukee 63.

The 62 IMCA champ in the Wilson 71, Tampa.

Seconds away from flipping over the T/H fence, ending his very promising career 1964.

I'd say it is.. He would have done it when he did the car.

    That's cool, I hadn't thought of that.

    Thanks,

    JD

Stevenson is the only one who drove it at Milwaukee in 52.

    Hi Spike and Mlight9,
No I do not have any drawings or material for the Hilly chassis, but Lynn Paxton may. Mr. Thompson did not purchase the Vargo car.
The Vargo sprint car was sold to Monty Wernett around 1969 or 70. I remember it catching fire at Bedford, Pa. Monty ran it for 2 years before removing the running gear for his "batmobile'' and selling the body and frame. I believe it never raced again before Lynn P. found it. Maybe it will be done for the EMMR convention next year!

If you go back to the 1920's Mrs. Yagle owned AAA cars. Don't know if she or her husband owned the 1929 INDY Winner driven by Ray Keech.:)

How many of you were at THAT on the 15th? I see you had an unusual fan in the infield! Not my favorite kind of critter!

My dad bought this one TODAY! I was trying to get him to track down one of his old cars but instead he fell hard for this beautiful piece.

I first heard about this car at 10 am this morning, and by 3:30 pm, it was unloaded and sitting in my shop! Guess we're going Vintage Racing.

Note: Funny Car in background, covered, ready to run, and none of us care!

Damn, now I want to do a sprint car!!!!

There have been a slew of great looking sprint cars come across these pages, but this one is right up there with the best of them. Great find, and have fun.

    Any history???

Found out this morning that it's a Troxel and it was in the Knoxville Sprint Car Museum for two years prior to the restoration.

    Rootie;
It was one of them smelly things. lol.
A skunk running around in the infield. Dave Merritt has like four pics on his THAT gallery. I would have put the pics on, but i dont know him and some photogs are touchy about using their pics. Just check out his site gallery. Pretty funny; in one pic the critter is chasing a guy! lol.

Thats funny, kinda reminds me of when I was starting out, back in So.Dak. around 67. The local track was a pretty lo-buck, rude and crude affair out in the middle of the prarrie and the pits were in the infield, which was just that; a field, no tar no gravel just dirt and prarrie grass as seen in the pic. Wasn't unusual to scare up a big ol bull snake or even a rattler now and then. The grandstands were just as bad, basically just cement blocks embeded in a hillside. One night we hurt the motor in hot laps and couldn't race, so I went up to the stands to sit with my girlfriend. While we were watching the goings-on a blue racer snake comes sailing down the stands right along my girlfriends leg and keeps on going. She jumps up in the air and lets out a blood curdling scream that could probably be heard in town. Sure got the attention of everybody at the track though! The "good" old days.

My father worked at Shannon Buick in the late 60's early 70's. Got to see some of these cars when I would go to the Body Shop on Saturdays.

Do you mean Trostle? If it the one from the Museum the car was built by Bob Trostle out of DesMoines Ia. It was campained for most of it's years by Mike Thomas of Des Moines. 1980 shot at the Mo mile it's the 37 on front row.

  26. I got to drive the black #5 Wokson car at an oldtimers event about twenty years ago. That's Duane Nelson (he restored some vintage racers) and Don Mack chatting in the background.

Yup Curt, I believe this is that car based on what you said and what we've heard from the previous owner. Do you have any other pics or info on the car? Anything would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Welp... I'm getting ready to burn the phone up looking for some parts, but I'd rather give you guys the money..

I need both front and rear Tosion STEEL torsion arms. Shackle to axle type like below..

Also need another set of Bird cages (Bearing cages) like below.. STEEL

Any Steel steering arms like below,

    Early Monroe shocks,

    3" spline rear axle tube,

    Rear brakes,

    327 Sprint car headers,

    ------------------------------

Again, not hard items to find... but I'd love to keep it in the crew here.

    Thanks guys.
