A friend just picked up an unfinished '26 Model T project. It has no roof, and some pics of different styles, as well as some ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated. One thought was a ribbed roof panel from an old station wagon of some sort. It is unchopped, fenderless, mounted on a home-built frame, and running a 4 banger. Suicide front end, BFG Silvertown (Coker) wide whites on 17" artillery-style wheels. Thanks!
Since Ts have that dead flat ledge above the doors, windshield, and quarters it is difficult to use a modern curved sheet metal top whether ribbed or not. I can't even say that I've ever seen it done successfully in a stylistic way. Best best is to get a complete top wood kit for the car and work from there rather than the RR method of 1/2" plywood overlapping an inch or two and Mexican blankets stapled on. You can use a modified 28-29 or 30-31 sunvisor rather than the fabric covered skeletal original style large economy sized visor. Get some old magazines and see if you find something interesting to use as a guide.
heres mine got original top kit from Mac's in new york --didn't cost much --got visor there too its from 28/29 model A
A well known rodder around here named Dick Smith has a T coupe that he made a top for ages ago by building a perimeter frame of some sort, matching the shape of the roof opening. Attached fabric to it, most likely viny. Turned it upside down so that it would sag slightly and used it as a fiberglass mold to make the top insert. He then covered it in vinyl. Sorry I don't have any more details, but I can say it has a factory look and with the subtle curve, it helps to shed water and you gain a little headroom as well.
I just found a picture of it in the Rattlers 4th of July BBQ pics. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377347
we did the top of a t with an s10 roof, had chrome strips that went the length of it. i dont have any pics of it, but BUSY B owns it now
Just some small screws through the chrome trim. It looks really good...most people ask if the coupes came with a metal top. I can get some better pics if you need them.
