what is the rarest car you have come across

ive got a 49 kaiser pretty uncommon..i found a 29 star, durant motors car and have the grill from it..and ive got a barn find 3 window coupe nash...nothing really too rare but not really common either...

A friend had a 1935 Oldsmobile coupe. I have never even seen a photo of one. It had a straight eight that threw a rod through the block. He replaced it with a big block Chevy motor. The body resembled a Chevy coupe on steriods. Pretty solid original car with some minor rust out. Not sure who has it now but it is probably still on Long Island.

 

Just saw it yesterday- a Nash-Healey produced sometime in the 50's. The body had a "F" badge on it (designed by Farina? sp?).

 

A hotrod that is actually finished. Haven't seen one yet.

 

My good friend has an all original, running 1906 Holsman Auto-Buggy Model 10 Runabout, a restored 1909 Brush Runabout, a 1913 White GAF "30" and a 1917 Hupmobile Model N. I also know another gentlemen with a all original, one owner 1909 Pope-Hartford Roadster.

 

How this for rare. 1959 Raymond Lowey concept car. It was parked in the ALLEY. Old time drag racers know where that is in so cal...

 

In the ´mid ´80s my boss got this 54 caddy Eldorado cab w/ original double headlights & ´59 Eldorado cab with bucket seats, approx 90 made!



and a 57 brougham was also running in the city

In 1969, I looked at an Aston Martin DB2 Coupe with a 327 'vette motor in Boston. Had an altimeter installed in the dash and was said to be a factory Monte Carlo Rallye car. Seller wanted $1.800 for it and I told him I'd take it, but someone else had right of first refusal. Still brings tears to my eye.

How about these......

1) In high school, circs 1973 or so, a buddy had a '66
Pontiac Acadian SD (Canadian Pontiac clone of a Nova
SS) with a factory L79 350hp 327. L79 Novas were
somewhat rare, but probablly no more than a handfull
of Acadians got built with the L79.

2) About 1979 - I found a very rough but complete and
running '70 Plymouth Superbird with a "For Sale' sign on
it at a trucking company yard near St. Catharines Ontario.
Originally a 440-6 pack car, it had been converted to a
383 4BBl engine to get it running in order to sell it - but
the deal included the 6-pack carbs and intake set-up
and the original, severely blown-up 440 engine. I
'coulda-shoulda-woulda' bought it for $1500 but at the
time I wouldn't offer more than $1200 fo it and the owner
wouldn't take a penny less than the $1500 he wanted.


3) A '59 Chev sedan delivery, ex-Junior Stock drag car I
found in a rural boneyard near Niagara Falls Ontario. No
motor or trans in it but from the lettering still visible
on the hood and fenders, the car had had a 290hp-283 F.I.
motor in it. Most probably it hadn't originally come off the
assembly line with a fuelie motor, but 250 and 290 hp fuel
injected 283s were theoretically an available factory option
on '59 Chev passenger cars (and thus a legal NHRA
stock class combination), so who knows? A '59 Chev sedan
delivery is comparitively rare. just in itself and if this one
turned out to actually be an original 290-283 fuelie car,
it have to rank right up there with the rarest of the rare.
I tried to buy the car for a long time, goinig back at least a
couple of times a year over a 5 or 6 year period, but the yard
owner wouldn't sell anything he had whole - parts only. The
last time I went back, about 15 years ago the owner had died,
the yard sold, cleaned out and everything crushed.

4) About 1977 - a '67 or '68 Isso Griffo coupe. Isso Griffos
where Italian built semi-exotic sports touring cars that
used SBCs for power This one was a factory 350hp-327 - 4
speed car. It sat on a used car lot in Burlington Ontario for
several months before it finally found a buyer. The car lot
was asking $3500 for it. A lot of money back then for a 9 or
10 year-old used anything, but it'd probably be worth 15 or
20 times that now.

5) Around 1983 - I came across a 1933 or '34 Packard V12
Victoria coupe and a 1940 Graham Hollywood with factory
supercharger stored in an old warehouse near Guelph Ontario.
Cars were rough, unrestored but complete. For a while I
thought I'd hit upon one of those mythical 'fantastic barn
finds' that you allways hear about, but never seem to happen.
Then I did a bunch of searching, asking the neghbors etc
and eventually found out the cars were owned and being
stored there by a very noted local collector.


6) About 1984, a 1960 Edsel Villagar 9-passenger wagon
in a metal recycling yard in Hamilton Ontario. At the time,
I had no idea how rare 1960 Edsels were, and particularly
the the 1960 wagons. According to "The Edsel Page"
(www.edsel.com) there were only 76 9-pasenger wagons
and 216 6-passenger Edsel wagons built in 1960! The car
wasn't rusted badly, was complete and was fairly loaded
with a 352-4bbl, auto, Town & Country radio, power
steering, brakes windows and seats. I 'coulda, woulda,
shoulda' bought the car on the spot for it's scrap metal
price - but didn't because I had no idea that it was anything
special or particularly worth saving. As it was, I managed to
stall the guy running the crusher just long enough to
scavange the 4bbl Holley carb off the engine and the Town
& Couintry radio out of the dash, to use for swap meet fodder.

7) About 1984 - in 2 separate boneyards, I came across the 2
1973 Vega GTs with the "Millionth Vega" trim package (option code
ZM5). I'm not sure how rare the "Millionth Vega" package was
but I've never seen any others. At the time, I was searching for
a decent Vega body to put a V8 into, but both these "Millionth
Vega" package cars were rust buckets, pretty much stripped
of parts and too far gone to salvage.


8) About 1990-91 - on a used car lot in Hamilton Ontario
- An '84 Lincoln MKV11, with a factory installed 2.4L BMW
diesel Suppoesdly less than 500 Lincolns were made with
this engine. I don't recall the asking price, but it sat there
a long time before it sold.

'39 Tatras are definetly real enough and kind of neat,
what with their air-cooled, rear mounted, hemi-head
V8s and swoopy fastback styling,.....but the part
about Hitler supposedly having this one - or any one
for that matter, "converted" to LHD sounds pretty bogus.
Czech cars - like the cars made in *every* European
country of the time, other than Britain - already where
LHD!

When i was 12 or 13 my dads friend had a junkyard.Almost every saturday we would go over for parts or buy cars,as my dad worked for a car dealer.I was looking around the back of the yard and found the greatest looking car ever! Wow it looked looked a space ship....I went to find my dad and he said it was a Tucker.It was scraped along with a cool looking pickup my dad said was a 57 camino.I watched the guy run a fork into the bedside and was amazed it was not steel.(i guess it a kid thing huh )
......I guess back then they had no value......

Have two buddies that both have rare cars:

One has a 1966 Griffith, the last one ever made Serial# 6006010 #10 of 10, very nice, documented and for sale.

Second guy has a 53 or 54 Hudson Italia can't remember like number 14 or something, one of the missing ones I believe, pretty crazy, but neat and super low production.

a 1970 ford mustang convertible with a fuel injected rocket v8 that came from the factory. there was something else rare about the motor but i cant remember. only 5 were ever made stock. i got to ride in it, it was fast and fun as hell.

1976, southern England, small rural junkyard, a Rolls Sliver Ghost with the remains of a WW1 military ambulance body, apparently made out of something like linoleum.

The Silver Ghost was so sturdy they made some into armored cars, which is what Lawrence of Arabia used out in the deserts, and dozens were still around into WW2.

I didn't think much of it at the time, not having a useable body on it, but it would make quite a home-built roadster.

1914 Stellite 8/10hp 2 Seater...less than 12 built.

 

Had a chance to sit in a "Brush" from the teens owned by a man north of here in Metamora. It had been restored so long ago, it didn't look restored! Roadster model. Small car. I had never heard of one.

 

I know a guy in town who had his 1948 tucker for sale!! He said it was number 18 of 51 made. He moved to lake county from San Diego area about 5 years ago, has some real nice cars, but the tucker is by far the rarest car I've ever come close to. And of course he never sold the car. He's had it various car museums in California and Nevada over the last several years.

I used to own a one of 21 built 65 Coronet 426 street wedge 4 speed convertibles. When I got it it had 17,000 miles on it and most of those were back and forth to and down the drag strip! I had it about 12 years ago, wish I had never sold it!

 

b.t.w has anyone heard of wolvorine .i think they came from the same marque .not sure on the spelling .have seen one before a few years back.nothing on google about this one.any help ?

How about something a bit later? The car in my avatar was one of the very few 12.5:1 cr,aluminum front clip,hardtop-body Max Wedge cars produced. I've been told that less than ten each of Dodge and Plymouth MW lightweight hardtops were built at Lynch Road(Plymouth) and The Main/Hamtramck(Dodge) plants. I've not seen any documentation verifying the exact amount.

Damn;I actually owned it at one time!

 

al if its late or early it does not matter as long as its rare.there were many pace cars that have been long forgotten and many stock cars also.this thread is about rarity .the year is not so important dave

 

Hard to say, there aren't a whole lot of ultra rare cars in my area. I would include a 1963 Plymouth Belvedere 426 Wedge Lightweight - 1 of 117 produced and 1 of 2 shipped to Canada. The owner and a friend of his raced professionally in the U.S. back around '65 with the likes of Sox & Martin, Dick Landy, Arnie Beswick, etc.

Found this 1967 AMC Marlin fastback today. Price is $200.00. Total production was around 2554! The car is beat but has a black interior with console and the hard to get parts are there other than some glass.Trunk lid is fixable but rusty. Good parts car I suppose or a restoration project for someone with deep pockets.
