Louvres,show us your best.

In your opinon,what are the best lookin louvres.Is there a traditional louvre?

 

we just got a press this my hood we did not to bad for are first time i think

 

I think we spell it louver.

I've been doing a few hoods lately...

Here is my hood recently done at a local shop, Automotive Hammerart in Indianapolis.

 

These are by Eric Vaughn in So Cal.

 

Built one with the Mittler Bros. stuff. Not as pretty as KiwiKev's but it does the job. Even with a 48" throat I had to make the dies flip to be able to do that Lincoln hood.

 

I think what Barrelnose Pickup is looking for is shape not lay-out styles. Me too! I have a friend that is making his own dies right now and doing several styles from center peek to 50's traditional. He is also designing a set that will be high/low. Meaning high on one side and low on the other. May look interesting on a center slanted hood.

One of the reasons I wanted my wagon...

 

Here's my go at it. I wanted a "Flying V' effect to match the shape of the hood. It's done on a rudimentary home made press with 26 different sized die sets. I like the look, but woudn't care to do it again.

 

I had 204 Louver's punched into the hood of my 56 Dodge back in 1986. someday It'll be back on the car.Not many 56 Dodge 2door hardtops and even fewer with louvered hoods.

 

I prefer the louvers that are arched, rather than flat across the top. Here's a lid I did for a Roadster project I was working on and the lid from my T coupe. The coupe was really the tricky one, if I fucked up and had to repair one, it would have ruined the patina.

 

One of these days I am going to have to come up your way. I need some louvers. I'm saving my money now.

Here's my best, and only, louver work. Made the "die" by hogging out a depression in a plank, the male half a scrap of oak also shaped with the grinder, to use as a dolly, cut the slot with a thin blade in my die grinder. I like how the louvers on the hood and lower panels are reversed.

 

This is a 1950 Dodge hood I had done, but now is not needed . It has a all the holes filled and a new peak from a 55 chevy fender leaded into the center.

 

This was done by a friend in Nowata Okla. P.M. me if you require his services.
