So I get up and go to this nostalgia drags/ car show called Blast from the past. They advertised gassers, slingshots and funny cars, plus the Hot Rod power tour. I get there and most of the power tour guys left already. There are no gassers, there are two funny cars and about 12 slingshots. The car show was lame and even had a minitruck entered. I went around and looked at all the old cars and met Jim Lyle aka 48fordnut on here. He's a cool cat. I get frustrated because they are running the local bracket races too and they are set to run the older drag cars at 5pm. Well it was about 11:30. I left and went home. My wife wants to check out this other local show that was supposed to have some good bands. So I figure it cant be any worse and we went. Well we went through the swap meet and looked around and this kid has a Holley 94 sitting there for 10 bucks. He also has an 8-71 blower for 25 bucks, missing the end caps. He has a 57 caddy cap for 15 bucks. I get the whole lot for 45 bucks. So my day is gettin a little better. Some friends call and said they were headed to the Blast from the Past show. It was about 4pm and i figure heck I would like to see those guys run so I went back. Got to talk to Big Daddy Don Garlitts and hang out with some other cool guys I met. Jim Lyle made a best pass in his FED and then backed it up by knocking 2 more 10ths off. He let me sit in his FED for a pic too. Jim is a good dude and Im proud to have met him So in a nutshell I started off having a pretty lame day. It did a complete 180 and turned out just great. Got to meet some cool folks and scoed some killer parts for dirt cheap. Now I need end caps foor an 8-71 and one more Caddy cap to make a set. :D

Two local shows? Dang, we are lucky to have two local shows a year. Much think I would prefer to go too a couple of average shows in a day than maybe one every 6 months.
    Great score on the blower!

We actually had three local shows yesterday. We also have a cruise in every Saturday from 5 till 9. About 2 or 3 hundred cars show up at. Its a good area for the car nut.

Three shows AND a cruise? That's not a good area for a car nut, that sounds like heaven!

We have it good from April to October. Weekly cruise-ins at least 2 nights a week, open track time at a top notch drag strip on Thursdays and seems there is always small shows going on at least once a month.

When we moved here from San Diego I was a little concerned about not having as much hot rod activity as SoCal. But I was wrong. We often have too many events going on to go to all of them and have to pick and choose.

In fact Skwurl, we won't be able to make your show in Gray on the 28th because we'll be at the Goodguys show in Nashville. Sorry man, maybe next year.

We were there for the last leg of power tour (which ended Fri night) and decided to stay for 'Blast from the Past' on Sat. Car show was a bust, as you said. (whoever heard of $25 to get in and $15 more for your buddy??) anyway the bracket racers were interesting.

Just lost two paragraphs of post somehow. Anyway, we were on the last leg of power tour from Somerset Ky to Bristol. ended friday night unfortunately. decided to stay for 'Blast from the Past' (real dud) and watched the bracket racers run. what's with holding the slingshots till 5 pm for pete's sake! overall, though great time and nice venue.
One sour note was getting Big Daddy to sign my shirt. He was extra nice to the guy ahead of me who bought a poster and had him sign it. Being the cheapskate I am, and not really needing another poster, I didn't buy anything. thanked Big for the tv part on Mother's car show...silence. also thanked him for coming to Bristol...silence. was he having a bad day, or mad because I didn't lay down any green? who knows.
anyhoo, enjoyed the trip from central ky in my f100 (put back together minutes before we left) and would do it again. later

...if it doesn't scrape, let out some more air...[/QUOTE]One thing you have to remember about Don garlitts is that he is deaf. You have to talk very loud. He is really a cool guy. I think he hears about half of whats really being said . You pretty much have to yell at him.

Hey man, wasn't the Erwin Autorama thing going on this weekend too? That would make four events in one weekend. Glad it turned out to be a good trip for ya. Holler at me this week and maybe we can meet up in K-town on Friday. Later bro.

Most have vendors, and especially in the Reading area of Pa., you can find parts that are to die for:eek: But if I had to move it would be in the heart of the south.......Cannot beat Southern Hospitality!!!!

    Hi Skwurl,

See it was a good thing that I beat you to Jim or you would never have found those bargains at the swap meet. Was nice to chat with you.

On a side note: About Big Daddy. He is almost deaf so it is a good chance that he never heard you.
