Per your request. The car belongs to Dave Chambers also from Elizabeth, CO. The car started out as a Gambler copy and Dave put a cooler body on it. The thing has some serious HP!

Just got back from Grandview speedway and the USAC sprints and ARDC midgets. Great shows! Those of us on the east coast do not see much "topless"racing! Great stuff. Enjoyed the good conversation with Mlight 9.

A bit O/T, but they are open wheel and it is for a good cause. The first annual Harold Leep Jr Memorial at Oklahoma Sports Park, Ada, OK. Vintage Sprints and midgets are welcome also.

That P-2 numbered car was designated to be driven by Lloyd Ruby, unfortunately we lost him in March.


They run the regular modern day stock versions, IMCA, IMCA stock and so forth.

It is hard to find a car that Harold Leep Jr drove, and we are building a vintage race car group down here. Since supermodifieds were the standard for so long, they are the backbone of what we are trying to build. We had schedule conflicts this weekend, so our group was small for the first year. We'll get more next year.

Harold Sr is still alive, Harold Jr passed away last year, one year to the day we had this Memorial weekend.

Speaking of books with vintage sprint car pics, I would like to highly recomment "Adventures of a 1960's 'Rookie' Sprint Car Owner" by Art Peacock, a very interesting near 90 year old gentleman I met last night at Grundy County Speedway. Art was a low budget sprint owner in the 60s whose drivers included Johnny Rutherford, Tom Bigelow, Bill Puterbaugh, Johnny White and many more. He's a very active race attendee and sells his book at the races to support his passion. It's a great read with some great vintage pics. If you have an opportunity to meet Art at a track, it'll be the best $15 you'll spend.

I have loved this site since it started,and finally signed up.I love sprint cars,and have decided to build one for the streets.Ive built a chassis and am well under way,I hope you can see some photos I have posted.

 

I have just loaded some more photos of my street sprint....I bought the body some time ago and think it is a Beck.Does anyone know what year this car is from?

That Beck bodystyle is from the late 60's-early 70's.

 

Be sure to leave some room for the cooling system. I've thought of using radiators from a watercooler motorcycle engine to help. Of course a main radiator is needed, but you need all the help you can get with a v-8 where I am.

I'm wrong most of the time, but I really wish to remember everything that flies by.

 

Im wondering if anybody has any pics of a specially built USAC midget. This car was built by Leffler for a guy name of Gene Hamilton, from somewhere in the midwest. It was built extra long wheelbase, for Johnnie Parsons to drive on mile tracks.
Sometime along the way it was sold to Pat Ryan; a friend of mine and my brother Dick. Pat had made tons of money through Sunoco stocke with his best friend, Roger Penske. Pat lived on the Main Line; a rich suburb west of Phila.
This car was the best looking midgets ive ever seen; that is until one night in an ARDC show at Grandview Speedway here in PA. My brother Dick was running ok until some midget jockey spun in front of him. Brother Dick went end over end the length of the backstretch, really wadding this gem up badly!
I cant remember if this beauty was powered by a Sesco, or by a growler, but it had plenty of smoke!
The night Dick drove it the car was painted blue and carried the number 55.
Anybody have any pics of this car?
