looks very good. i have 50s dodge tail lights on my 52 more dr. they are shorter than urs. peakin the quarters is a sweet idea.
Super nice work, Slide. I'll parrot what the others have said about the Buick tail lights and the peaks on the fenders....they look fantastic, as does Poncho bumper. Great custom in the making... Bryan
Hey Slide, I was shocked when you sold your sedan. I loved all of the small kustom details that the Chevy was wearing. Now looking at your fastback I'm thinking what Sedan? Very Kool, Love the rear end treatment it so right it looks stock. Keep us posted.... Happy Trails, Mick
Love the model choice and the direction your going. Nice work, too. By "truck arms" I'm thinking you mean like 60's-70's Chevy coil spring / trailing arm style? May I suggest the brackets could use a little more gusseting, like I'm showing here in red.
JackdaRabbit-- I wrestled with the necessity of the gusset you mention, but a few factors that made me decide it wasn't really going to add any structure (but might still be good for cosmetics?): 1. All the stock car setups I've seen have no gussets at all. Same for the Pete & Jakes-style ladder bar crossmembers on the market. (P&J ladders articulate almost identically to the truck arms.) 2. The arms I'm using are take-offs from a Cup car, and they have spherical "monoball" joints rather than rubber bushings. This puts that front mount in a decent double-shear. 3. I'll be running a pretty stout panhard bar that will go from the right frame rail to the rear of the left truck arm. 4. My coilovers will be canted inwards a bit at the top (additional stability) 5. The tabs for the truck arms are relatively close to the front legs, and the front legs will tie into the factory K-member directly inline with where the angled braces of the K-member attach to the tranny crossmember. 6. The tabs are welded on both inner and outer edges. Thanks for your input! And thanks to all for the compliments!
at least that answers yours and my question today of were has he been. Call me if you need help with anything Mike
Got the trunk floor cut out yesterday... and my bones are so sore!!!! The area above the rear axle needed to be raised to clear that big 12-Bolt rear, as well as the yet-to-be-made upper coilover mounts, sway bar, and panhard. The rest of it was pretty much swiss cheese with crusty fiberglass over it... so it all came out. And a better shot of the truck arm setup.
It's nice to watch some who knows what the hell he's doing build something. Of course, you're from Texas so that is part of it !!!
Where did you score the A-arms? I tought you were using Chevy truck arms but those look different. Todd
You guys just kill me with your skills.............DAMN ...... Should I say its a Texas Thing........... I would love to see some up-dated pictures.... Its going to to be a killer ride after your done.... Two thumbs up from N.C.
These are take-offs from a Nascar Cup car. One of those right-place/right-time things. Same basic design as the 63-72 Chevy truck arms, but with a little bit different bracketry. There's some more detailed pics in my Photobucket.
Been covered up with a bunch of side work lately... but hopefully I'll get at least a couple hours in on the car this weekend.
nice, what is taking you so long...just kidding.. I know you have a great family to take care of.. I hope this one rides as nice as my ride....lol.. Mike, the only thing I have done to your old ride is put gas in it and drive .. wife and I went to OKC a few weeks ago in it, all she said was... stop playing around in it.. I was trying to catch a Mustang Convert some where near Gainesville....and I did........lol I am getting a little closer to wanting to have an automatic installed, I may do it when I turn 70 in 2 yrs......lol you are doing a great job on your new one and thanks for selling me your other one, it has been nothing but pleasure to own and show it... I always give you credit for the great work on it.. the best part when you build one is,,, fun and SAFE to drive.. have a great Holiday, Fred
