im building my 29 coupe as a street/strip car with a time period from 1965-1967. ive got a 283 powerpack motor with a vette 2x4 intake, tube front axle and a 57 chevy rear. im going to be running disc brakes, yes that would be period correct for that time frame. my question is what rims do you guys think would be the best looking? or which ones were seen more during that time period on a coupe at the strip? i know what i like and im on the fence between 2 of them. so i thought i would see what you guys thought. yes i know its my car and i can do what i want, blah, blah, blah. im asking what would YOU do.
no comments on the discs.. but, i would run mags in back, chrome or painted steelies in front if it were me
The slots on back and chromies up front would be 60's correct. I've seen pics of the old street classes with steelies on back (slicks) and the nice wheels on the front. Street/strip cars.
disc brakes .....and you have the balls to bust on me for air bags!!!! Might as well run a set of billet wheels with those discs! Clark
yep. disc brakes. and for the record i never busted on you. i stated that airbags on a model A were wrong in my opinion and my opinion was no more important than yours. i also stated that i meant no disrespect to anyone in the thread, yourself included. disc brakes were used on drag cars in the 60's. front and rear. plenty of pictures of cars with them. in fact i have a how to article in drag race magazine from 1964. im shooting for a 1965-67 time frame for the build so disc brakes would be period correct. if i were shooting for an earlier time frame or a non street/strip type of car then yes it would be wrong to have disc brakes.
this is actually what i am leaning toward. either chrome reverse up front or my buddy has a set of fentons. the only reason i haven't jumped on them is they are 14". i kinda want to run 15's.
Voted for slots, my favorite and nowadays they're cheap. One thought about chrome reverse wheels, they add a lot of load to the wheel bearings due to their offset and make the car hard to steer.
i have a full set of fenders. i just need a set of running boards. the car will be a street/strip car. one that was would have been driven to the track, raced then driven home.
The issue was weight transfer back then (well, now too), but "mags" (light weight wheels) were used up front if you could afford them, and steel wheels on the back because wide steelies were way cheaper than big mags and the weight didn't much matter. Oh, and we drilled and pinned the slicks with short sheet metal screws to prevent rim slip. (well, I didn't have enough power to twist the rims, but it looked way cool!) My first set of American's cost me more than my Chevy 327 long block in '67.
Torque Thrust for me I think I am unloading the cragers after paint <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o> </o> P.S the air bag debate there is another tred that clarifies this There where guys using air bags in the late 50s
ok ok we got it. you vote no air bags on A's. its your tred ...and no i do not have air bags on my A Traditional all the way buddy I let man hole covers destroy the bottom of my car
