Been to New Orleans twice and absolutely loved, but I was wondering if there was any hot rodding scene there. I'm sure that there is but I imagine there is not exactly a large base of cars to start out with, or am I wrong?

I'm going down there in a couple of weeks. Would love to check some cars and a garage.
Any good music events happening on Frenchmen street ?

A salvage outfit in Dallas sold hundreds of old cars dragged out of New Orleans after the Katrina debacle. I knew a few people that bought one and some were happy and some were not.
New Orleans and the surrounding communities were filled with old cars, restored, hotrods, full classics, and from the oldest to the 60s super cars. American Antique Auto Parts in Kenner was a large regional distributor of old car parts.

DBA and the Spotted Cat are pretty awesome. Both clubs on Frenchmen. And on Frenchmen look for an old jazz dude dressed to the nines. That's Uncle Lionel. Arguably the coolest old guy ever.

Thanks, I dig Frenchmen. Beats the heck out of Bourbon - at least in my opinion.
I'm gonna check out Gal Holiday while we're there.

There's a healthy portion of rods and kustoms down that way. I been down to the Coonass Redneck Nationals (Hammond, LA) several times and always a nice mix of rods and kustoms. Unfortunately that event is in April now, when I went it was in the heat of August.

We I guess livin about 50 miles from N.O. I will chime in. There are cars everywhere and there is a cruise nite or an event if some kind every weekend, sometimes there is something going on friday nite, sat, sat-nite then sunday too. I dont go into the city with my cars because it is just plain to dangerous. I lost a freind, he was shot on his hog waiting for a signal light. He made a wrong turn and was killed for it. But anyway, I lived in so cal and while there may not be as many cars out here as there, I would say it is pretty damn close. You just have to know where to go to find em. Tim

New Orleans has the highest murder rate in America.
I will not go there for ANY reason

  12. Fuck the murder rate. I actually live here. Axle I sent you a PM. Theres a hot rod scene here but its very secluded, kind of like an inner circle type of deal. Its pretty cool once you figure out whats going on though, nothing radder than blasting around NOLA in your old car. Come on down...

New Orleans hot rod scene .......ha ha.......ha ha......Yea... Scene... New Orleans? Right..ya.. right... well Lets say the hot rod scene is so secluded that it's hidden from even itself. I've lived here for around 13 years and I could think of like 5 people and I don't think they know each other. I'll put it this way I've been working on my '54 AD truck for over a year with only 1 offer of help. Thats why I'm making plans of moving to Austin like a few of the other guys that did live here before.

The only scene here is drinking. Which is cool at first till you try and get anything done.

  16. New Orleans truly is a toilet. There is no car scene and no form of motorsports whatsoever. The closest drag strip is at least 100 miles away. They even ran the Gran Prix out of town because the locals bitched about having to close the streets and no one cared to attend. All they care about is the suck-ass Saints football team. It was a sh%thole long before the hurricane hit, and will be a sh%thole until it's ultimately consumed by the Gulf of Mexico.

I can say this because I was born and raised there, and my family has been there for hundreds of years. I left over 10 years ago, and leaving was the best thing I ever did.

Ha ha ha ha. I love it ! I don't go to N. O. or Louisiana in general for cars. I go there to fish, hunt, eat, listen to great culturally diverse music ,site seeing with the wife, hop on the Natchez and run up & down the Mississip, check out the record shops, the zoo's & aquarium, etc, etc. and did i mention eating? Serious, its what you make of it. There are crappy area's in every major city - just have to know where to stay away. And thats my 2 cents.

Is the Rock n' Bowl still open? I remember seeing a kick ass blues show there in 2000, but last time I went the area was still pretty torn up from Katrina about 2 years ago..

  23. Rock and bowl is still open. I was there Saturday night. By the way, best resturaunt is DEFINITELY Angeli's on Decatur. Nothing beats it. This city has its bad points just like any other major city. Along with working on my cars, and going to shows, I spend ALOT of time kayaking through the swamps to fish for bass, and hunting redfish and speckletrout through the marshes. I love this "shit hole." Im not sure if you guys are into punk, ska, or zydeco, if you are this is the place for that too...

When I was there in March there was some show going on at the convention center. I didn't make it over, but just saw some over done tri-fives and a donk or two driving over.

Damn dude were you raped or something while living there. Im from there as well and I sure as hell dont think that. I dont live there anymore due to work transfer but I sure in the fuck miss going to a store and having people actually be nice to you. Or while driving down the road people wave and just say hi. And god forbid the people there go for their own football team. Jesus thats something to bitch about huh...oh my what a shit hole. There are the people who are proud to be from New Orleans and there are the people who think they are better or embarresed than the people of New Orleans. Ive been all around the world and I miss it. Just like ANY PLACE in the US there are shit holes. Its what you make of it.

Now to actually answer the question, yes you need to find it but its there. I remember going to alot of shows as a kid but be ready to cruise. Its not Cali where its a dime a dozen car shows but sometimes the journey is as much fun as the destination. Oh yeah and you will not find any better place for food and if you like to fish then its heaven. Watch out for the mosquitos though. You can actually see their dicks they are so big.

I agree with "Whitey Ford" for the most part. Did someone ask you where you got your shoes at? This is a great place to visit. On of the reasons I want to leave is so I still want to come back for vacation.

Part of the problem with N.O. is this has pretty much disappeared. I've lived in the area most of my life and have seen alot of change. Since the storm, there is an underlining meaness in people. I see it the way people drive and just interface with others. I don't think tourists see it, but those who live day to day here definitely do. If it wasn't for the fact that I actually have a job here, I would move somewhere else. I really miss what N.O. was years ago. If you lived here 20+ years ago, you know what I'm talking about. :(

I honestly cannot think of anything as far as car stuff occuring in Orleans Parish. Everyone pretty much moved out to the surrounding parishes (Jefferson, St Bernard and St Tammany) back in the 80's. The best event I remember was the Antique Auto Show at Delgado (near City Park under the oaks - it was beautiful! :) ) in the fall. But that pretty much died when the event was moved to one of the casinos. Not much fun being in a blistering hot parking lot with nothing but a cruddy casio near by. :(

Anyway, I could go on and on with what's wrong with the city. If you like the touristy stuff, that's cool. It just doesn't come with car stuff. :)
