Cool post! I see nothing wrong with this thread. Didn't this company just give away a cool piece of shop machine for the winner of tech week? Jeeeezzzz what did you guys give away?

Here are some pictures of old lineshaft machine shops. Boy, what OSHA would think of this now. Notice the ages of the kids in the first pic. I can't imagine what the noise level in these shops must have been.

 

those pics are nuts!!!! i work in a machine shop and im going to print those off and keep them in my tool box so the next time someone complains about "how hot it is" i'll show them those lol

So I called Shane at Baileigh yesterday about a deep throat (get your mind out of the gutter) shrinker/stretcher. They have one on their site but no stand w/foot operation. Shane said to wait as they have something coming out in a few weeks. He didnt elaboarate on exactly what it was but he didnt pressure me, instead he was straight up and told me to save my money! He could have just went for the sale. I dont care if he gives a discount or not at least he's straight up and no BS!

If you worked there back then ,wouldn't everyone have just a slight urge to touch the belts when they are spinning! Yoooow!
I met a guy years ago in MPLS that had a bunch of belt driven machines restored and operable in the original building.. That would be cool stuff to have!

Wow, those old machine shop pic's are cool. Spinning belts, open gears and pullys. Some of the workers are wearing ties, looks like a good combination, yeah where was OSHA!

Although I'm not sure of the man. date, is this 'vintage' enough for a lathe?

No vintage metalshaping tools to speak of for me...a couple of old hammers and a Heller file. Most of my metalshaping tools have been made by me.

Not just osha, some of those workers are Kids. Man would the child avocates be pissed by that.
