Ripple pipe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bastard cat 1, May 8, 2009.

  1. I've been interested in the ripple pipe, so I'm building a machine to make it. If everything goes as planned the pipe will have 24 inches of ripple in the middle and 2 inches of straight pipe on either end. It will probably take another month to get it in order. I will keep a post on the progress.

Looks cool but how durable is it? I use the regular chrome pipe with stick hose for the last 50 years and still works--LOL

Hmmmm. Wonder if that would work on Stainless Steel tubing? (I love my stainless exhaust, do it once and never worry about it again!)

You can still get it at Pep Boys.

  12. Superior tubing still makes the convoluted stuff it, I contacted them and asked if they could do a special order for us, they said 30 stick minimum order, and it was cheap too, like $12 a stick...

When I asked if anybody wanted it in on a group buy, nothing but crickets chirping.

    Oh well...

I believe if you look closely, the Pep boys tubing has "rings" that are larger diameter than the smooth sections of the pipe. Where as the old time Fenton ripple pipes, the rings are not bigger but the same diameter throught the whole length of the pipe. Like the pic shown by the previous poster.

I think both look fine chromed but if you are a stickler for details the even ones are more correct.

    Perhaps, hydroforming? :)

  23. Some of the last machining is being done on the machine. I will try stainless to where it could be welded on and polished.

I saw the tooling that he made for this. Its very cool and I can't wait to see the first piece of rippled pipe come from it.

superior is on bullshit.. they said the same thing to me like $300 minimum order, and i was ready to pony up... i set up a deal with 4-5 different diameters and lengths, and was gonna spend $500 to have it sittin around and to help people out..

ive written em back every two weeks for a year... still nothing..

    crap...

get that piping done i love it!

I actually have a piece of the original J.C.Whitney pipe, about 5 ft long, with the original wrapper still on it. It went begging for a bid on that e-gay site, but getting it chromed sounds like a winner to me.

Man that looks sweet! I like it.

What kind of machine does that? Swager?

  28. Still waiting on the machine shop. With the replies I'm getting I hope this damn thing works up to par! This thing is an experiment for my brain anyway, but if you don't try you'll never do. I'll keep an update.
