Had a really nice day over 70 and time to play on my tank project.
I got my son to get in and check butt size in getting into the tank with
the hatch size, and he fit right in! His head came out of the tank about like you see in all the old photos. The next job was to put the flat head in with the water tank . it fit like some one really did read the tape. so far every thing did what it's supposed to for the first fit.

the next job on this project is to build exhaust tubs and cut the holes in the side of the tank. after that its getting the hand clutch in and working also the hand brake working.

The photos will help show the progress ,also I will post these photos in my album

  3. Looks great Randy!! Maybe I'll be out to see it one of these days. Did you see the original tank is now up to $4500 now and still hasn't met the reserve? I'll give you a call tomorrow.

The tank looks like its f/glass. If it is, who made it? Is it one of the Kelly/Vensa ones? The project looks great!
    Cheers,
    Stewart.

:)Yes - This Tank is Fiberglass- Ravon Street Rods
made the tank for me! I had the O.E.tank and Ravon pulled the mold for me and the aluminum shell went to Cal.

This has been a fun project that should be complete this summer. It all started with a August 1949 Hot Rod story.

Very cool. Can you educate me a little bit on tanks? Is the water tank instead of a radiator? Does the car have any suspension? I'm assuming you built the frame inside the tank right?

NTAPHSE--The radiator is a 26 gallon water tank, the flathead will boil water at the rate of 5 gallons in five minutes at 2500 rpm so that tank of water would be enough to make a pass at the dry lakes or at Bonneville. The car has front suspension with old two pistons GM shocks.I used a 1925 "T" chassis that was rearranged and add a tube back bone so the chassis was more stable not so much bounce if ya know what I mean.

Looks like fun! Too bad my fat ass would never fit through that opening or I'd build one.

You had a mold made does that mean you will be selling glass tank bodies?

Cool, thanks for the info. I don't know much about belly tanks but I would love to build one and drive it on the street. Can you imagine what people would think seeing that missile driving down the highway? :):):)

:DI went to the shop today and got the holes in the side of the tank for the exhaust to come out . That was a job! the side profile of the tank had to match the old photo for the placement of the holes.after
The holes were cut I started cutting the tubes .I got 2 pipes cut with
    4more to go!!
Once I get pipes sticking out of the body I will post more photos!!!

Hey old Duce, What's the measurement of the wheel base from axle to axle on your tank?
    Thanks
