I have a set of domed pistons for a 283 labeled L2149. These pistons are .060 over. I have not been able to find any information on the compression ratio these pistons will yield with different size combustion chambers. Does anyone have any info on these? Thanx.
That's an old TRW number. I still have the 1989 trw performance parts book at the shop. I can look them up friday if nobody responds. Jeff
I went out to the shop and looked in my 83 and 89 TRW performance catalogues and they don't show a L2149 for a 283. I looked in the numerical listings and the lowest number in there is a L2163. Ya got me on that one.
Many of the tall dome 283 and 302 pistons were made from the same slugs, and they had the same part number stamped on the top.
Due to pin offset, the left side pistons are L2149, and the right side pistons are L2148. TRW designates these pistons to the 1961-63 Corvette Fuel Injection engine. Source:TRW 1972 Engine Parts Specificatons Factory CR was 11:1. The KB piston #166 Hyper shows it as O.E. replacement for 57 - 61 fuel injected Corvette with the following CR chart: 55cc = 11.0 58cc = 10.5 62cc = 10.0 64cc = 9.7
Thanks for the info. It appears that I better start looking for a set of heads with 64cc chambers (or smaller). I have some 487X castings I was hoping to use, but I believe they are 75cc's and that would not give me enough compression.
I believe the 461X heads would be the small chamber from 62' Corvette 340hp sphp and same for the fuelie 62' 360 hp. 327, they are probably what you would want to use. Those engines were listed as 11:1 comp. with those heads.
