latches turned in to the stake holes, held in by quick release pins. Didn't want chains out back banging on the new 'gate

  8. I'd love to see pics of what that setup looks like, I am working on a 50 model tailgate for mine and I have an idea of how I'm going to do it, similar to what you have described.

  9. this will be white Zero Rust starts semi gloss and dulls out in about six months. never going to be a nice truck. built to work and haul trailers.

What luck have you guys had out of using just BASECOAT and hardner?

I have gotten mixed answers from some painters... some say its fine.. some say it wont last... but this is a garage kept truck only seeing light of day when I drive it on weekends. What are your opinions?

  16. Thanks Spoons...a very cool way to latch. Definately something to think about.

  17. Mine is painted basically that way. I used a RM polyester base mixed 4:2:1:1 - paint, reducer, clear paint, clear hardner. I first used this concoction on an old 50's fridge for my garage 4 years ago, then on a set of factory S-10 wheels for my sons truck then on my truck this spring. Time will tell if it will hold up. The problem with base and hardner only is that there are no UV protectors, but by adding the clear and clear hardner it give it some UV inhibitors. It has held up great on my sons wheels, it's been about a year and a half now and it sees sun everyday.

me too can i have it? ha ha ha

  21. Because it was mine. Got it in '73 and sold it in '76 to make an investment in my wife's engagement ring. After 33 years I'd say it was a good investment that grew to 32 years of marriage, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 grandson (see avitar), a '51 Henry J, and a '77 Vette (our 25th wedding anniversary gift to each other).
