Common Misconceptions

  1. This one came up today on another forum.

I think it's time HAMBers took the lead and straighten out some of the mistakes and misconceptions associated with these old cars we fool with.

I'll start it out with a couple ,but I've got many more. Let's hear yours.

1, 64 to 68 GTOs and Lemans's came with Powerglide transmissions.
(this is all over the internet, even among parts vendors)

    2, A Pontiac 350 is a smallblock. A 400 is a bigblock

3, EDELBROCK is spelled any other way

    carry on...

  2. A 6 cylinder Mustang is a "Muscle Car".

An adjustable Crescent wrench is a "Metric Wrench".

Installing a chip and a K&N air filter and windshield graphics on any ordinary car instantly turns it into a tire shredding "hot rod".

    Craigslist add:

    For sale,
Old car. Found in my great uncles garage when he died. Has some rust but not to bad. Make a great rat rod. We just want it gone. Dont know what it is, but it's old, so I figure it's worth at least $32,500.00... Serious inquiries only.

Thomas Crapper did not invent the flush toilet.

Alexander Cummings is credited with inventing the first flush mechanisum in 1775 , 50 years before Mr. Crapper was even born

What the heck was the BOP 2 speed automatic? I know it wasn't a PG but I can't remember for the life of me. For some reason Super Turbine 300 sticks in my mind but I don't think that's right.:confused::confused:

Never mind, just Googled ST300, guess a few brain cells did survive that period.

You CAN ONLY install a SBC in an early FORD...

A SBF (or other engines) will not fit and are too expensive anyway..

me: " um, Wee-und? dont you mean Why-and?"
    her: "nope, it's Wee-und"
me: "well i'm standing here, holding an intake that has "Say Why-and" cast into it. Must not be your company that makes speed parts"
    her: "no, that's us"
me: "can you connect me to someone that knows a little more about the company you work for, please"
    her: "one moment sir...."
