i have a 1981 chevy crewcab dually with 454 and want to change intakes. the engine is stock and the truck is a four speed-four wheel drive. i need advice on what would be a good intake to use. i pull my trailers with this truck so low end torque is what i am after.
Professional Products Cyclone....Comparable to both of the above Edelbrocks but can be found a bit cheaper....Yes, its made overseas, but the quality is decent...If you are a USA all the way kinda guy, then never mind...
im running a '86 454 in my truck. Since i wanted to get rid of the EFI and pollution crap i installed a 396 intake i had laying under the bench. So i guess an intakes an intake as long as its not off a 348 or 409.

In my case it def. works. The 454 came out of an '86 1ton dually, square ports. Im not sure where the 396 intake came from, my father pulled it 20+years ago. Knowing my father it was most likely off a chevelle. What i did was ran the part #s for the intake gaskets off the 454 and part #s for intake gaskets from a '70s 396 before i pulled the intake off. They are identical. Boy was i stoked when i found that i didnt have to go out and buy a new intake.
396, 402, 427 and 454 all take the same intake. The only difference is whether the heads are square or oval port. I did forget one thing. If it's a tall deck the intake won't fit
Tall deck will be 366 or 427, they still take the same intake, but you put spacer plates on the heads for it to work. for the OP: Weiand action plus or standard performer, vacuum advance HEI, and a quadrajet.
