Hot Rods 46/39 Ford Pickup

I have debated on wether or not to post this, but figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Not sure if this is exactly HAMB freindly but here is my 46 Ford Pick up I've been working on for the last few months.

The cab, bed (shortened to 58" long) and REAR fenders are 46 truck. The front sheetmetal is from a 39 Ford Standard Coupe. The front fenders are "teardropped" to match the stock pickup rear fenders. The frame is a 74' Datsun truck frame, slightly modified, to accomodate the body. The nice thing with this frame is the fully adjustable torsian bar front end. Powered by a SBC with a Pontiac rear.

The first few pix are in rough mock up(as you can tell). The last are where it is now with the frame done and painted and the cab back on. Plans are to be done for June Billetproof.

 

Here's where it is now, ready to run brakelines. Finish the sheetmetal work and a whole lot more.

I'm diggin it! I really like the chop w/laid back posts and larger windshield opening. Any pics of cab chop in progress? Also, what year Datsun frame?

 

I love the chop.

 

The frame is mid 70's Datsun. Disc brake front with 6 lug, same as chevy bolt pattern. I have an old set of 16 x 4 gm 6 lug wheels that I'm running vintage Goodyear 5.00 x 16 Blue Streak dirtrackers on. The chop is a bit tough to explain. I removed the roof but left the windshield area, then removed 4" from the post. Then I split the frame at the cowl and leaned to my angle. I scribed it from the widest gap in the center to the a pillars Then I cut that and reset the frame catually down closer to the cowl.(roughly 1") The roof center was beat beyond repair so it was split down the middle, I cut it at the drip rails and welded on the upper door frame only then I cut the roof so it was'nt so tall from the door top to top of roof. welded it all back together and there ya go!

I like the chop, somewhat how we chopped my 40 Ford pick up
cut mine across the cowl and leaned the post back too
makes me think about what to do with the other cab I have and just by luck, I have the 39 standard front sheetmetal hanging out too.

Wicked ride. I like the what you have done. That is going to be a bad lookin truck. I can't wait to see more.

 

Well one more example of turning a Plain Jane vehicle into something very cool. Pretty soon those '46 pickups are going to be in high demand. In fact, I just had to drag one home today myself to get ahead of the demand curve.
