59 Caddy taillights-Who's got 'em? Let's see 'em!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by don-vee, Mar 26, 2009.

  1. I'm trying to figure out a different way of incorporating 1959 Caddy tail lights into my next build. I've seen 'em mounted, frenched, recessed, and bastardized a bunch of different ways, so let's see 'em all here. If you have 'em, or have a pic of an unusual way of puttin' 'em on a car, let's see it!

These were on My Falcon....used 5" table saw blades painted black for the mounting. The cooling slots lined up perfect with the factory mounting holes for the factory lens.

Here's some really wild Cad taillights...check out Dichrome.com for them, and some out of the ordinary shift knobs...

I am not normally a fan of these lights but raunchero13's example on how he used them on his car is the best i have seen. I love them on that car!

I remember back in 1959-60 going to the "rich folks houses" with a screwdriver to visit the midnight auto supply out of thir garages. I needed one of these for me and a buddy for our Cushman Eagle scooters. Wrong size screwdiver; I had to make a second trip.

I like the looks of the 59 lights most of the time. I planted a couple in my sedan to help use up the "too much metal look" of my rear roof corners. The body is chopped and sectioned so the cad lights are not too high from the ground. Fun to do. Mine will look a bit better once everything is the same color around them. When sunk in the like does take up some interior space.

I have a few spares if someone wants some original 59 lights for their project. Steve

A few shots from the Caddy. I had to grind away to squeeze them inside.

A couple of years ago, either Street Rodder or Rod & Custom did a artist drawing of some of them set in a rear fender of maybe 36 coupe and a motorcycle fender. anybody remember this or
have a copy of the article. Thanks.

I have to agree with several others - Rauncheor's application is the best I've seen in a long time.

I do like HD74's as well, but Raunchero's is clearly head and shoulders above the rest.

(If I could remember how to post a pic, I'd include my own application....)

WOW! thanx so much guys for the kind words, im actually very stoked to get such a good response, because im tired of these god damn CADDY lights too. i was running out of options and was getting frustrated so i gave it a shot and it's good i guess!!! well i've been working on the rear section of my car for the last few days and it's looking straight as hell now, my father in law was in town for 4 days and he was a great help in getting her smooth. just finished the rear section today.

Raunchero13... do you anticipate any issues with water puddling up under the lights? I don't see any drain holes.

    Looks bad ass!
