Absolutely. I love 49-51 Lincoln's. I love the longer wheelbase.
Per (RPW) is building a very nice one

Well car wasn't very road worthy when I got it. All shock mounts and Bag mounts were cracked. They have all been re welded. Front A-arms replaced Shock waves up front. New air comps, replaced re wired re mounted properly. New air lines. This car had no throttle response. It literally would not get out of its own way.The throttle arm for the Six rochesters had to be re fabricated & re located. New accelerator pumps.Lots of little things were done a bit wacky and a bit risky. One thing at a time. Had some electrical problems. Fixed those, almost burned her up! She needs interior and new paint to be satisfactory in my book but at least she is a cool cruzer now. Like I said one thing at a time.

The frames are different due to the Lincoln wheelbase, so if you put a Merc nose on a Lincoln you have to shorten the frame, if you put a Lincoln front clip on a Merc, you'd have to make it longer.

I want to put a Mercury front clip on my Lincoln, since it's hit in the front anyway, but I'll need a Mercury frame also.

But bodywise, not including the frame, yes, they are interchangeable.

The big Lincolns (Cosmopolitan) look good with a chop and cleaning up the stainless around the windows. I never saw another '49 Cosmo coupe like mine- most were the 'Merc' body, or 4 doors:

  26. Not interchangeable at all. The Lincoln chassis is 5 inches longer from the firewall forward.
None of the sheetmetal forward of the firewall will swap with Merc or Lincoln.
The suspension is different as is the Engine, trans/gearbox and rear end.
Not to mention a million other trim pieces etc.

Hence "(for the most part)". You could swap the body panels if you wanted to unless you're staying with the original ones (as in my case). The Cosmo was 5 in longer yes hence it being on its own separate chassis. Technically you are correct though, all were different part #s.
Here are some pics.....on the trailer is before the body came off. Currently in the process of transplanting a 98 mustang GT drive train plus a M-II front end. Her flatty only ran on 5 cylinders when I received her but the Hydramatic shifted gooooood.....so I'm quite anxious to get her back on the road! 20150530_102624.jpg 20151126_224311[1].jpg .
