Hey- I've got a question for any of you F100 (F-100) "Styleside" experts... I have a '57 Styleside, some of the front body panels need some serious work (rust, removing old Bondo, etc.) and I have an opportunity to purchase some replacement pieces (hood, fenders, doors, grill). I know the pieces are not from a '57, I was told they are off a '58, the hood has a different treatment in the center and the grill is dual headlight but the rest appear to be the same. The parts are definitely from the '57-'60 body style era, that much I know for sure. My question for you experts, will these newer body pieces bolt right up? My concern is that some catalogs group the '57 and '58 together, as well as the '59 and '60. Anyone on here ever swap hoods or fenders between different years? Any helpful insights would be greatly appreciated! I'd hate to spend money on parts and find them useless because they won't crossover. Thanks in advance for any assistance with this one! Take care, -DON-
I wish I could help but I have not got that much experience, I have a 1960 F100 and will be watching this post with much interest. Be nice to see some pic's from guys supplying info to you. Good luck...
Yes, they will bolt right on. The only difference like you stated is the headlights. In 59, and again in 60, they went to square turn signals mounted entirely on the valance, so there is no half circle on the front lower section to accomodate the round signals of the 57/58. However, if you find yourself in a position to get 59 or 60 fenders, you can cut the half turn signal out of the 57/58 fender and weld it into the 59/60 fender. I wrecked my 58 in 2004 and wound up putting a 59 front clip on, cause it was all I could find at the time. Personally the 58 front is my fav.
Cool, that's great news, thanks Johnboy13! FiftyV8 is right, anybody on here mod'd their '57-'60 F100? If so, how about some pictures for the rest of us? I guess I may have to start a new thread if no one replies with pictures. Man, this board is great! Stuck on an issue... toss it out to the HAMB... couple of hours later, troubles solved! I wish everything was that smooth! Thanks!
I have a 1960 F100 and can add that the 59 and 60 lower valances are different. The 60 has no previsions for turn signal mounting, no louvers in the center and a lower flange and bolt holes for the lower grill to bolt to. The 59 is much cleaner looking as it wasn't covered up and has boxes for the turn signal lenses. 60 valance complete 60 grill 59 valance
Thanks "Happy" for adding that info about the incapatibility up front, I'm planning on sticking with my '57 valance... really dig the round parking lights. Hey "57F100" is that your black truck? Did you paint it? That paintjob is awesome, I've never seen a paintjob show off the body lines of our trucks more than that red one! Super cool, man, thanks for the picture!!! Anybody else have any pics of modified '57-'60 F100 pickups? Let's see 'em! Thanks! -D-
Take care with the grilles and headlight doors. They are all different. While the '58 and '59 look very similar they won't interchange. Anybody want to buy a '58 grille?
In order to use a 59 grill on a 58 you will need to switch the headlight housings to 59. I run a 59 grill on my 58. I recently picked up a stainless 59 grill so I'll be placing my painted one up on the market. This trucks are getting popular. I posted a 59 cab on Craigslist and sold it within a few days. I had a ton of emails about it.
This is super clean -and a little dorky for the HAMB- but still a good example of a '60 with a '57-'58 hood.
Just my penies worth. I believe the hood from a 58 is dimensionally the same as a 57, the only difference being that the raised section on a 57 hood is ribbed whereas the 58 is not. Good luck with the truck!
57 and 58 hoods have the same top rips, but side emblems vary between the two years. 59 and 60 hood are much more square in the front with the 59 have the bid FORD letters and grille in it. 57-60 are way underrated !!!! CJ
on the 57 and 58 the front of the hood goes straight across and the 60s models have a dip will this effect alighnment or hitting on the grill if you run a 60s model hood on a 57?
I have to agree with the lack of interest in these trucks, but keep em going because they are cool as hell.yours is looking awesome.I had a 58 Ford pu short styleside.kinda of wish i had it back now.
call Johns Auto Salvage in Seguin Tx Im pretty sure he has at least one that Ive seen personally.not to mention about 15 other 57-60 Ford pick ups,one f500 dumptruck and one Panel truck.good luck
