Well today I took the plunge and began to chop the top on my 47 Special Deluxe.I have a donor roof for the car, and after thinking it was going to work out one way,I found out we were going to have to cut it in a lot more places than I thought. My buddy rodknocker was there to give me a hand, we began by cutting striaght across the front, just behind the windsheild. We then cut above the gutter back to the rear.My plan was to keep the B,C,& D pillars at the same angle as stock so they didn't look tilted it.Due to this being a 4 door,we went and got some 1/4" rod to put into the gutters to follow the contour,we bent the rod following the donor cars roof, then tacked it into place. Then we made the cuts at the B,C,&D pillars. We made it up to getting the C& D pillars tacked in.There will be more as progress is made.

I got the pillars welded in,and today I skinned my donor cars roof and slapped it on.This is working out pretty well, the rear window is going to set real nice without bowing out at all, again I'll have more updates soon hopefully.

Looks great! Love it so far. These slope sedans are hard to make flow with a chop. Yours doesn't look to heavy and I think it'll compliment the curves better. Glad to see you doing a plymouth. I haven't seen many on here, chopped. I plan on putting mine under the knife soon,,we'll see how that goes. Glad we're seeing more ply's out there!

    Regards,

Wheeled it out tonight to get a better view and to make sure everything is "flowing". I've been working on widening the rear fenders, also put the rims, visor, and spot light to get a better vision. Thanks for the kind words so far.

nice work! That's a lot more effort than a 2 door A, but it looks like you pulled it off!

Good job I have a couple of 40 plymouths I had used for parts on another project I had done and I've been kicking the idea of doing the same thing to one of them.Yours have me in the mood to do it now. It looks great ...cant wait to see more pics.

Man you got bigger nads than I do. Your plymouth looks good with the chop. I found a pic of a 40 dodge tudor sedan like mine that was chopped and looked horrible. Curious as to why your widening the rear fenders? more tire clearence? later shawn

it will eventually be like that, he's going to have the springs de-arched, He's widening the fenders to put it more in proportion, the fronts are nice and fat, so he wanted the rears to look the same.

You pulled off a nice chop on a challenging make, model, year. Proportions are great. I'll always have a fond place in the heart for these Plyms. A `48 was the the first car I have a memory of my parents owning back when I was a lad of 4 or 5. Also the first wreck I was in. The old man was the only one hurt; a little scratch between the eyes when his glasses broke. Served him right -drivin drunk with the whole family on board. LOL

:DLuvin' it! How much are you guys widening the fenders, it adds even more to the curves on the old gal.
