Mac Miller, in addition to being an outstanding authority on the sport, is an old-fashioned craftsman.

This seemed like the best place to ask this question. Anybody got a good photo of Shorty Templeman in a midget? Preferably on pavement. I need one for my "Driven to the Past" column on Frontstretch.com this week. [email protected]. Thanks in advance.

I found one of him in the Hardwood Door Offy, the same car in which he won all three 100-lap features at 16th Street on the Night Before the 500 in 1956. Thanks.

Brian26, Hey, 'Seeing that old super with the deep rail space frame is great! Looks like LaVerne had his thinking cap on a LONG time ago! Thanks.

  14. I'm about to pick up an 80's Stanton/Challenger sprint frame. Funny how much alike they are!

    racer5c,
One of the brothers has passed away but I am not sure if it was Bill or Ed.

I have what I belive to be a mid 70's (maybe older ?) Stanton or a close copy, not sure. The chassis had a cage on it when I got the car, but it looked kind of stubby almost like it was an ad on, does anyone know if Stanton ever built any cageless sprint cars ? Will have pictures soon.

Hey, they are almost alike! In '91 I went to Selinsgrove to fill in for an injured driver. The team put a back half Challenger/front half Stanton car together. I didn't know it till I got to the track. Looked the car over REALLY well, and decided to give it a try. Thats when the crew told me what they had built. Honestly they did a great job on that Stallenger, it worked fine.

IIRC Stanton started out building supers/sprints in the s/w in the early 70s. By then cages were pretty much mandatory everywhere, so it's probably unlikely he did, hard to say for sure though.

M Light,Johnny White did build the car. That's why I would like to see some documentation with that car.

  25. Stanton and Challenger were the same company. The Challenger name came mid 80's and held when Harold Annett bought out Stantons part of the deal. I talked with Annett personally about it.

That design stayed mostly the same for many years.

  26. Racer5c would really know, but I'm pretty sure Don Edmunds was working for Kuzma at that time.

In my part of the world it is pretty common for people to paste the name "Edmunds" on anything with a cross spring front.
