Ford model A coupe build. First of all I must admit, It is not me self doing all the metal work. I'm a mechanic not a sheet metal guru, but I'm having the opportunity to have a friend who is. I had this rusty 28 sport coup a couple years without doing anything with it, when I found this roof parts I decided to try to build a standard coup. Now almost all rust is repaired and we started with the roof, it wasn't as easy as I thought. I have asked for help here on HAMB and already got some answers, great place for an old car nut. I'm going to share some picks from the project here, so here is was we started with. More to come,, Lars
can't wait to see the progress on this, looks like alot of work, but it'll be fun! good luck, keep us posted.
Here are some picks from the start of the new subframe, because the plans in the future I have to start the work on the other frame. Lars
Look really great, and love the sheet metal work on the floors. Keep us posted as I love to to see really nice work.
Thanks for all the positive responses! Now we started with the body, here are picks from rear right quarter panel swap. Lars
Here are the rear quarter panels replaced and the panel below deck lid, when this car is done it wont not being much old Henry steel left. Lars
Here are the edges at the fenders against the T-strip repaired, new t-strips used between fender and rain gutter. Lars
I like to see that I am not the only one with "parts" of a car. Have you decided what to do about the belt line that runs below the windows. (b-piller to b-piller) 56
So far this looks great! I have a 28 Leatherback that I would like to convert to a standard coupe. Quarters and floor look good. Reece
Its not easy to build a coupe when I dont have any 28-29 to look at in real, we have to trust picks and guess a little. I think we are trying to do a look a like beltline between the b-post; most of the coups around here are 30-31. Here are some picks of my friends tools, most of them are home made. Lars
Looking good Flatread53! I have posted several options for handling the beltline molding on the HAMB Special Coupe Club page at: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=236 There are tons of detailed roof pix in my photo album at: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=5277
Thanks Gashog! I searched a lot here on HAMB and found a lot of good info, my plans is to do a standard coupe. Your coup looks rely sharp! This Special Coup Club is not for Standard Coups I think,, Lars
Glad to help, Flatred53. The beltline molding was also used on Sport Coupes and can be a problem when converting either of these to a Standard Coupe.I think I'd go with the brass molding for a Standard Coupe conversion. I appreciate the compliments on my SC. You don't see many of them restored or rodded. The club is especially for lovers of Special Coupes, but all are welcome
Here are shoots from the restoring of the cowl, I just seen problem but my friend just says it just sheet metal dont worry,, Lars
Here are the doors repaired and the bottom of the cowl, after the assembly its time to start with the roof. Lars
Now the roof is on its place, I very satisfied with the results. We had no measurements from a stock 28-29, just pictures. My plans for this car is to drive it on a stock chassie the firs year, I have some plans for next year if I have the time,, Lars
