Here is one I made for my 32' pickup.

 

Here is the seat in my RPU the previous owner made.

first seat is made by a friend of mine ( with a little help...), made from aluminum
benchseat is made by myself from sheetmetal and will be painted in the future..

 

Haha, I 'borrowed' this Iroquis seat when I was living on NAS Nowra while posted to the Parachute School. Hey, it was a 'shiney thing'.......

Man that looks familiar, did you base them off a real seat? Mustang? Late production Spitfire? I just cant put my finger on it?

That seat cracks me up! Or it would crack me up if I tried to sit in it... haha.

Completely looks like it's out of an old fighter jet... a really narrow one!

 

Here are mine I made for my S-10. The seat pans are from a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS that I totalled, and then I just copied the hole pattern to the back, made some side pieces, and tacked 3/16 rod around the edge to smooth them. Still making mounting brackets for them.

 

I notice comments and questions about how comfortable those "Bomber seats" really are...

Surely people realize that some form of padding/cushion or even use of a parachute pack went along with the original use of these seats to make a long flight bearable for the Pilots!

BARE metal "bomber seats" is a Hot Rod thing....not an Aircraft thing.

 

I'm a wimp I have padding in mine.

 

walking around summit racing and saw these $80 full back race seats. cut off all the parts i didnt like and got this. needs a little finish sanding.

 

i have a quik question for the bomber seat makers in this thread. is annealing necessary for 3003 .063 ga. aluminum. i started a set of seats and just about to the bending and edge rolling stage and i don't want to crack the aluminum. thanks in advance, mike in k.c.

It depends on your design for the seat if you have to anneal it most of the time with 3003 H aluminum it is not necessary. I would suggest making the seats out of something a little stronger maybe 5052 if the back is not supported and you plan on using the seat the 3003 might be a little to soft. a lot of pressure is put on the back of them. Just my two cents

if most people realized what it takes to hand craft something
they wouldn't be crying about the price.

 

Find an old racer and cut down the aluminum seat, it looks like a "bomber". No welding needed(even though I have a TIG), it saved a lot of time.
I found these neat cushioned fold-down seats from an old Chris-Craft boat at a garage sale for $20.00

I used a set of MGA seats.

 

I wanted bombers too but needed to run a full harness for drag racing. Compromised and bought some $120 kirkeys. Hacked most the top off and ended up with what you see. Pretty happy over all.

These are two driver's side seats from an old M-37 Army truck. (The passenger seat was a double, that's why the two driver's seats.) I had to do a lot of surgery to make them suitable, so I may as well have built them from scratch. I drilled 18 lightening holes for the hell of it. Since these pics were taken, I made some decent butt padding for them. They aren't bad. For longer rides, I use one of those cheap mesh lumbar support things that you see around.

5052 .063 aluminum with 1/8" aluminum rivets, 936 of em to be exact.
