About that 100%er; I think a 100%er is someone who BUILDS the car his or herself, The actual fabrication. I'm building my 29 completly myself at home in my workshop. Sure I bought alot of the parts I could'nt make but I also made alot of the parts I could'nt find. I've been doing this for over 35 years and have never seen a car that was done 100% by one person. Thats why we have friends, to help out on the stuff we need help with. Am I a 100%er ? Probably not, but close!!!!
I am a "low c" builder at best..... Oh well, I have been living with my own mediocrity for better than 43 years now...
FNG got 100 % of a idea from another post............. And NO I can't do it all myself, WELL I should say I could but don't have that much time , Its work my butt off save a little then buy a few more car parts and work on the car some more... OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN..........
I'm proud to say I'm a 100%'er. Excuse me, I'v gotta run... I'm cutting down a cork tree to make some new valve cover gaskets.
i know a few 0% ers,,,,,,,its usually the guys that have biggest mouths and dont actually even own a car, but like to break balls, start drama, and act like tough guys on the board....
You should be melting down a rubber tree for those gaskets, so they'll last longer and you can reuse them.
Well i've started prepolishing for chrome, but i'll have someone else dip it. i'll have someone else bore my block too. but i am machining up my own tranny adapter and crank blower adapter for anouther project. Do i still count??
im melting my own steel in my basement as we speak, then ill form and hammer dolly a brand new 32 ford coupe body. only takes me about 3 and a half hours. made 4 new bf goodrich www,s out of some old innertubes, they look bitchin....that makes me a 200 per center...............
I can't believe all you fuckin guys, if modern society has taught us anything, it's that you gotta give 110% to be better than the next guy. Bunch of halfass slackers
Hell, I'd just like to be able to drive it again even if someone else did all the work this time. I don't care how much or how little a guy builds on his own car as long as he doesn't claim someone else's work as his own. It is pointedly obvious on this board by the questions that come up daily and often that we have people who's skill levels range from can't change their own tire to can build every piece on the car and do the body work, paint and upholstery besides and then go out and hold their own at any show indoors or outdoors in the country and or world. If it wern't for the guys who want cars and can't do their own work a great number of the guys on the board who make their living building cars or parts of cars for others would be out of business or out of a job. I can probably do 90% of the work on my truck myself outside of glass and upholstery. But at this stage I'm not really interested in attempting to do some of the other things myself. I don't really want to build my own exhaust nor do I want to paint the thing again myself. And there is the simple fact that on some of it I want it better than my tired old hands are now capable of doing. So I won't make it into the 100% club. No big deal.
He's cutting it down so he's got room to plant the rubber tree to make the tires........ plus he's gotta plant some corn for the fuel.....
I look at it this way , If you are doing as much of the work that you know how to do and need some help with painting or fab work then OK !
just another pissing contest... as long as you're having fun go with it. though doing it yourself is rewarding in its own right.
If I claimed that where I live (with our biker gang problems) I'd probably get shanked by some pissed off biker like this guy
I just crushed a Pabst can against my forehead and threw my computer. Then stabbed it with my switchblade. Im 1000%.
