Hot Rods 32 Ford sedan progress report ...

I rarely post here as I am more of a lurker. My skills are much better at working on 32 Fords than typing and posting photos. A few of you has been complaining to me for being slack and not posting, so here goes. A few on you may remember that Deuce Roadster ( Randy ) and I went to Mississippi to get a 1932 Ford sedan a while back.





It had been off the road since 1967.

I have it off the frame and have been working on the body. The cowl vent area needed a little " lead work "





My good friend Steve ... used to be a professional body guy and he works a lead paddle expertly ... so he is helping me with the lead work. Steve also lurks here on the HAMB. He has a nice 40 Mercury Kustom.

Here is the 32 frame ... with a 34 style crossmember. The rear is a 9 inch Ford riding on coil springs and the front will be a dropped I beam with split wishbones.

 

Lokks like a couple of ol' pros gettin' things done.

 

I have new wood installed in the sedan. I also have a new floor in the car.







The new floor is made to match up with the recessed firewall. I did not really like any of the readily available dash inserts so I had a guy cast this one up. I polished it and then added the engine turning to it. I was going for a 50's retro look but yet have something not commercially available ... even in the 50's.

I installed coupe/roadster wheelwells in the sedan so I could run a decent tire under the sedan and the tires/rims still be under the fenders.

Wanting to add this sedan to the garage



I am building the sedan out of left over parts and pieces I have gathered over the years, so progress has been a little slow. I will try to post a little more often and keep up on the progress reports.

I really enjoy looking at the progress others makes on their projects.

Buster,,,the sedan is really starting to take shape,,love the dash insert,,,and always admire the quility of work that comes out of your shop.

Now about your Hamb name,,,ever think of changing it to 4 Deuces? HRP

Buster,,is the machined turned metal insert the sheet aluminum type Speedway sells or did you make it yourself?

How did you drill it out for gauges without destroying it? I know that stuff is thin.

Because I know that 3 Deuces is a Infrequent vistor here and rarely posts ... I can tell you that he made the machined insert ... it is stainless steel. He took a piece of stainless, cut it to fit and then did the engine turning on it. HRP ... I know you have been to his old shop, but his new home shop is even nicer and cleaner ( if possible ).

Wow...I could build myself a brand new shop....never use it ...and it still wouldn't be that nice! Beautiful work on the car!

 

Did you lead in the cowl vent? Just curious. Lots were done that way in the day, but it seems that the trend today is to have a working cowl vent.

He has a super place to work and the equipment to do it also. But he also has the talent to USE all that stuff.

He has been a great friend and very much a great help on my Deuce projects. Both of my cars ... are what they are because of Buster. He has been a very big part of the builds on the roadster and the 3W coupe.

Jeez, that shop is unbelievable! I think he has every piece of equipment you would ever need. Very nice! The sedan looks to be coming along very well too. If his friend ever wants to cast some more dash inserts, I'd want one for sure.

 

I remember hearing a story about the owner of this first class shop.

A visitor had noticed that when he finished using a tool, rather than just lay it down where he was, he would walk back over to wherever it belongs and put it back in it's proper place.

The visitor commented that it sure seemed like a lot of extra walking to do that, so why did he?

He replied that it was easier to put it back than try to remember where he had left it when he needed it again!

For many people, he is "living the dream" with that wonderful shop he has! (and it couldn't belong to a nicer guy either!)

Of course, one cannot ignore the cars that have received the benefit of this man's talent!

Great look. I love the dash treatment.

 

I don't have to worry about my shop ever being that clean. You would have to be able to get inside of it, before you could clean it. LOL.
