Event Coverage 2009 Sacramento Autorama **THE MERC SHOW** Setup Day

Wow!! I'm finding it difficult to put into words the feeling I had when I first walked into the Merc room at the Autorama. It was almost like opening the door of a walk-in freezer, a wave of cold air giving me instant goosebumps, but the cold quickly diminished. At first I didn't think I should talk, maybe whisper, nothing louder. I felt like I snuck into a vault and at any minute, I'd be escorted out by two snickering security guards, shaking their heads. But I didn't get thrown out and I was privileged enough to steal these pics...

I'll be at the show all weekend and I know there are a ton of cars I missed (Oz was just arriving) and all the Mercs and suede cars coming for the drive-in on Sat. If everyone hasn't been overloaded by coverage from the show, I'll post those too.

Oh yeah...I got to meet Rik Hoving and chat with him a few times. What a privilege. The guy knows everything about every famous Merc at the show, and is yet remarkably humble.

I'm so stoked there are 3 days left of this show...now if my boss will just let me off early...

I agree with Bryan, walking in the Merc room yesterday was amazing. I had never had the privilege to see so many historic customs under one roof. If anyone is on the fence about going, this room alone is worth the entry fee. I have only seen most these cars in books until last night. Thanks for the pics Bryan.

I'll take some more tomorrow. And yeah, the name RULES and the car's cool.....but the '56 Mugford built is better. And I'm really looking forward to seeing his '36 when Scott finishes it......
