What happened to Goldbergs fake 1965 A990....selling for $70k then NOT being reported at all on the web site. Lot #1288 (Goldberg's car) was MISSING off the website after it sold for around $70k,,,was he able to pull the sale from B-J because he is a big shot or what....does anyone know...?????

 

Was it a "charity" sale? If so, its off the books at B-J. The sale is between the charity and buyer.

 

Normally id have spent pretty much the whole weekend watching the show but with no new car project and the shitty weather here i just played ham radio and listened to the chilli bowl midget races on the puker.. I really cant agree with everyone that thinks this is where to put your money? There may be some good buys but with the economy as it is who is gonna buy your cars when you need cash? I took the wife out for pizza yesterday early evening and as soon as i got home i turned on the tv and hear the words resto mod ? I went to the radio room... I did come back to see tony stewarts race car go for about 1/2 of what it went last year.. I just cant buy into the thinking that we should put our cash into classics and hot rods.. Like i said what if you have to bail whos gonna buy em if everyone is out of a job ?

It wasn't my intention to discriminate (that was a bit of a jump), nor was it to suggest that the rich were somehow lesser beings that the rest of us... interestingly, I didn't mention wealth at all... in this vein, it would be inappropriate to also observe that some weathly people were also responsible for the subprime mortgage mess that the entire developed world now finds itself in, but I digress...

my point, was to only observe that BJ, IMHO, for the most part, runs more of a spectacle than an auction... they are extremely sucessful, doing something that is considerably more respectful than some other commercial endeavours on the planet, but this thread was about opinions. Mine is that there are better auction houses out there, that perhaps recognize that without folks like us there wouldn't be rare antique, classic and muscle cars to sell, because we, and other groups like us, preserve, hoard and otherwise protect from the crusher they very thing that they sell... if this brings others to our hobby that truly value these vehicles and parts for their history rather than their projected value at the next auction on the circuit, great. I think that they might, and I stress might, be in the BJ customer minority....

 

I think you will see that trend slowing... especially in this economy.

There were tons of cars in the past two years that sold well UNDER what they cost to build.

Goldbergs car was a screw up on saturday. The guy bidding didn't have a bidders pass, only a guest pass. He did commit to buy the car, but they couldn't verify his funds that day. The car ran again on sunday and brought almost the same money.

I looked through all the pages and was hoping to see plenty of pictures.
Bitching about the wealthy is pointless, there are miserable, pathetic people in all income brackets.....the BJ auction is ridiculous but there is, usually something to look at, rolling across the block.

Barrett- Jackson was good to me last week.
I took 6 cars to Silver Auction at the Casino outside Fountain Hills.
Sold one out of the six (on reserve figures) and got my ass handed to me.
Lost some money and wasted a lot of time.
Sold two cars at Barret-Jackson, made a score and left happy.
Selling no reserve attracted buyers and got the job done for me.
I even bought a car there Tuesday afternoon.
I felt I got a great buy!
The auction was soft but I could live with it.
Hey..........i'm just a poor hard working stiff like a lot of us out there who are into older vehicles.
I needed the money, I wanted to reduce the number of cars I have (quickly), and I felt the auction was my best solution.

I'm really gonna miss my Lincoln
but it was too nice to rod and the
money I got will help pay some
bills I've incurred.
I'm going to find another one a
little rougher and rod that one
next time around.

I'd like to reiterate Ryan's point.Alot of these guy's did something smart to get here. They and us have a commonality.We all love vintage machines.Focus on the commonality.
Remember;You are richer than someone on this thread.Some on this thread are a lot richer than you are. If you had a sh*t pot of money,you'd be sniffing out some of that stuff too.
Auctions in the US are typically a spectacle.It gets people worked up.I went to the Gooding's sale.They use an English auctioneer. He was subtle,occasinally badgering but good.No shouting,no ring men hammering on people. Interestingly enough,they sold 33 million in 6 hours.BJ did 66 million in 6 days.

This ferrari sold for 4.5 Million plus 10% premium.

This Caddy wagon went for 60K

The Talbot Lago went up over 3 million.The bidder in front of me had on jeans and ball cap.He folded at 3 million.

This was a period Hot Rod from an estate.It went for 58K

This Damlier was so long,I'll bet the title had two zip codes.It was nice.

I got lucky and scored this 1949 Vincent and sidecar.

This was a Foose creation ,I think.It fell way short of reserve.100K vs 200K
