155 in my now totalled out '71 Charger 383 (not stock, duh). I didn't total it doing 155 (obviously I wouldn't be here). I was racing my friend's Camaro LS1 on the 5 freeway in San Juan. We were DEAD even. Fun as hell. :D

  4. hey all, gotta laugh was thinking about the old blokes hitting 100mph on the lakes in the 40's when I do that every morning on the way to work (seriously!), fastest I been on a bike was 206mph (330km) on a mates drag bike on an empty main road, and 150mph (240km) in my old car- I blew the trans the weekend after on the way to the nostalgiia drags. It did well it lasted eight months of 100mph + torture. note : Im 20 and f##king stupid

I was fortunate enough to get to drag race some and I've gone pretty fast, I licensed at 314mph - what made it more interesting was that I pedalled it 2x on that run.

But the one I'll always remember wasn't the fastest, just the scariest - 298 upside down with no wheels still attached (Gainesville TF '97).

I've been over 200 hundreds of times. But all were on a dragstrip, which because of the astounding accelleration doesn't really give a good sensation of speed. I would really like to try a Bonneville ride and get to run well over 200 for some period of time - That would be very cool. Anyone need a driver?

  7. 135mph on the street, '06 Star Roadliner Midnight 113ci of pushrod fury!

I need a 6th gear or a taller front pulley so I can get some more speed out of it. Sustained speeds of over 110 mph make my tires evaporate though!

It's going a hundred miles an hour standing still

Some of you guys are brave, I don't imagine I've sailed my Buick much faster than 60-MPH. That thing is all over the road! Maybe I should get rid of my roasted bias-ply's and get some radial tires? :D

Probably around 1963 my good friend Don Keller and I were crusing back to Grand Island, Nebraska from Omaha in his 62 Chev Impala convertable that had a 425 hp 409 in it, of course with a four speed. 27 inch tires, 3.23 gears 6000 rpm. Works out to be about 150 mph. And we had the top down!! Bias ply tires and one had a boot in it!! Great days!

+135mph around 1993-4 in a cherry '75 911 I had swapped in a practically new '89 3.2 transplant motor for the original that had been blown when I got the car. Was going up a pretty steep long hill from Pacifica to San Francisco blowing away some guy in a Volvo wagon who for some odd reason was thinking he could show me something. I played with him a bit, but then nailed it in 3rd and dropped it into 4th. Thinking I might be doing a 100 or so when I went to drop it in 5th and leave him in the dust, I looked down and noticed I was actually already north of 135 and then I quickly remembered the old tires that were still on the car might not hold up much longer and this was way too fast to risk that. I realized this was stupid and just left it in 4th, eased up some hoping the old tires would hold but kept the Volvo well behind me. Not sure what that car was actually capable of, but still had a lot more that I wasn't willing to go to on the road. Very surprising how easy it was and how smooth and capable it got to that speed. 80-85 was the sweet spot for that car, less felt like it was just dragging, and 100 was nothing.

Now, I don't drive fast in the Studebaker trucks. 60 seems like about 135 in the Porsche. Speed is opposite of the point to having a nice old old truck. I drive slow and relaxed and get there when I get there. Anybody who wants can pass me whenever they feel like it. I prefer it that way. Fast cars are cool, but slow is just fine with me.

I'm not sure how fast we were going, but I had my girlfriends (now wife) 64 1/2 mustang well over 120. We came over a rise and the front end would settle back down, started floating all over the road, that'll put the fear of God in ya!

...I had my brother in laws 78 Trans Am up that high too, but that was less exciting thanks to the Herb Adams stage III suspension.

you Bonneville guys don't count... Its like saying i went 600 mph. From Atlanta to Memphis. In a 747. Its just not fair...

When i was 17 i took my 1975 Mercedes 280 up to 138ish with 5 friends on the way to school. Nice comfortable speed apart from the engine howling. Took my '84 Civic to 105. That was deathly scary.
I try to not push it now that i am a little older.

took my buddy's SRT4 to 138, my roadster pick-up to 120, my 03 crew cab Chevy to 120, same for a 01 Passat and 93 Civic.I guess 120 is about as fast as I want to go not on a course.

138 in a Pantera around 285 in Atlanta. The front of the car would lift when I hit a bridge "bump" in the pavement and drift into the next lane.

146 at the Petty Driving Experience.

  29. With me driving, an estimated 130 in a '64 Olds 88. The speedo was buried and I was still going faster.

With someone else driving, 150 in a '70 GTX with a 440 6-pack. This was on the Ocean Parkway in the dead of winter.

On a race track, Pocono in 2005, I was a passenger for 6 laps in a stock car, we were doing 170.
