Hanging Your Arm Out The Car Window. Do You?

I've wondered about this before. And I do catch myself doing that to keep me from sliding on the seat when I'm turning lol. I guess I probably need seatbelts. So anyways, after checking out a video on youtube and noticing 90% of drivers and passengers hanging their arm out the window... I had to ask.
So what's up with that? Do you do it? and Why?

I do all the time, that or just have the elbow on the sill. Its comfortable! There was a race driver here in Australia that used to always do it, CAMS told him to stop doing it because it was dangerous. He had the team build the roll cage out around where his elbow sat just to piss them off! This was in the 70s, RIP Brocky.

Well for one thing for the guys that grab unto the roof don't wanna have the roof fly off at speed. the others who let their arm hang down it's to prevent premature opening of the door at speed. Also it looks cool!

Maybe I should make something that I can hang my arm out of, so I don't feel so left out.

 

i like feeling the wind flowing around my hand and arm. also it helps push fresh air in and that oily burnt smell out.

 

Look cool, provide fresh air, and let other folks enjoy my choice of music (oldies/goodies, pre "new" country, and any rockabilly I can find). Back when I used to be one of them evil smokers, it was only natural. Besides, I don't have time to roll down the window AND grab my 12ga sawed-off.

It makes a casual "You're number 1" and thumbs up gestures so much easier. Keeps the Lucky Strikes in your rolled sleeve fresh too.

i usely drive a pickup, i hang my elbo out.

 

I do it to trim my fingernails by dragging them on the assfault

 

It's not a trucker tan, its proof that I drive my junk not tow it with a tinted and ACed dually.

 

I do it so so the skin doctor will know which arm will most likely get the liquid nitrogen. Saves time.

 

I used to, then a gal I knew lost here arm at the elbow in a side impact accident, made me rethink the whole thing.

No arm rest, where else you gonna put it. Still have the scars on my knuckles from driving my cousin's TR 3, didn't realize those damn things wer so low.

 

i do it, and no doubt my grandpa did it. his 69 datsun 521 he bought new is discolored all except where his elbow rested out the window

 

I don't think hanging your arm out a window is very traditional...lol

 

I used to hang my head out the window until I kept cracking my head on shit, so now I just put my arm out. Just not the same though...
