Hello i would like to say hi and im new into hot rodding and automotive ( im 19) and building a 1949 chevy truck street rod i recently got my motor and just located a trans for it.

I need to know how to make a 94+ S10 T5 WC trans fit on a v8 350 chevy i know there are alot of threads out there but i cant seem to find the one i need..
I have been told the 94+ s10 t5 has the ford belhousing style but is the correct length for a v8 ( no spacer or washers needed) but how do i bolt the ford style bellhousing to my chevy? or what can i buy / make to bolt it to my chevy? also what clutch is recommended? THANKS!!!

Supposedly, there's an uber-rare bellhousing that will do what you want - either from an AMC product, or perhaps an Astrovan.

Otherwise, you'd be farther ahead to start off with a T5 out of a GM vehicle with the GM pattern...

What did hot rodders do BEFORE the internet?!?!?! Are you retarded, stupid, or just plain lazy? Do we need to hold your hand?!?!

Reading ONE link in this thread I was able to discover that you can:

    A. Buy a GM bolt pattern tranny.

    B. Wilcap sells an adaptor to mate a Ford tranny to a GM bell.

    C. A 80-82 jeep with a 4 cyl 151 bell housing bolts to a Chevy block and has a Ford bolt pattern.

    D. Take a regular Chevy bellhousing and redrill/tap the top two holes, and weld a plate on to catch the lower two holes.

Personally, I'd find a used scattershield at a swap meet and do the fourth option (D).

That 94 S10 may not have a t-5,more likely it's a NV tranny with an intergal bellhousing.

The NV3500 with integral BH from behind a 4.3 will bolt up to the SBC with no problem. The Getrag from behind the 2.2 is junk. Make sure that you have a T5

    '89 S10 is NWC.

If a '94 trans is from a 4 cyl S10, then it should be a WC T5 with a Ford pattern.

It depends. How heavy is the car? How hard do you drive? Do you speed shift much? Etc.

I ran an early '83 Ford NWC T5 behind a stroker 351 (374") pushing close to 400hp in its early trim (detuned for better street manners later) and had few problems.

Light car, limited traction, it'll do just fine. Heavier car, stickier tires, you may be replacing it soon if you abuse it.

The gearset you have, 4.03 1st, is probably the least desirable of the whole lot. You can run a pretty high rear ratio with that and do reasonably well...it's also one of the weakest versions of the T5...

its a 49 chevy truck so its a little on the hefty side the rear end i think is a 4.11 detroit locker im gonna run regular street tires not slicks or anything like that

also do you have a link to somewere that explains how to install/use the vss in this trans thanks!!

ALSO i would like to thank all of you who have posted any info at all im trying to learn this stuff and its just flat out complicated... Thanks

edit i would like to add the only reason i went with this trans is cause i gave $350 for it and the bellhousing and its freshly rebuilt 0 miles did i get screwed or was it a good deal?

$350 for something that even though new isnt going to work, yeah, I think you got screwed.

Heavy truck, decent torque and a locker for traction means the you will break this trans pretty quick.

The 4.11 rear means that 1st gear is beyond granny low.

The simplest thing to do is get a different trans, your going to spend way too much time money and effort to make this one work.

And then your going to break it and have to find a new one anyway.

It sucks, but thats the basic jist.

how would a trans with the specs listed below do with that rearend/motor combo?

The gear ratios are 2.95 first, 1.94 second, 1.34 third, 1.0 fourth, .74 fifth \

2.95 first gear would be a V8 Camaro version, and is the more desireable of the lot. You can run either cable drive or electric for the speedo with this one. The shifter is on the end of the tailhousing, but if you are going to use bucket seats, it should work out fine.

It should hold up well enough because of the 4:11 rearend, and because it's about as good as you're going to get based on your budget.

Chevy used 2 different size flywheels over the years, and you need to make sure the bellhousing is correct for the size flywheel you use.

Lots of other "little things", but you've got enough to worry about right now...

Use a T-5 out of a mid 80's Camero/TransAm v8. It will bolt right up and have some staying power behind your 325hp mill. Use the tail shaft housing from your S10 T-5 to get the shifter where it needs to be in your truck.
This is what I am doing in my '54 Chevy truck...
