IM IN!!!!!......1950 Mercury Custom....in progress.....frame off, mustang 2 front end,5 speed manual, Hemi 528 cu in 700hp, 9 inch ford with 411 gears..........hope to be ridin this summer.

what's your guys opinion on ididit or similar steering columns in 49 mercs? i need to change mine but i don't know if i should get another stock one or after market.

 

Slddnmatt found that there's one out of a newer Ford of somekind,that has a tilt but doesn't look all crappy like the GM ones. PM him and ask him what car and year it's from. I'm gonna change mine out,but for a Pick-up column,60's era.

 

bad bob arent they kind of hard to find around here? all the junkyards have nothing but new cars.

Send a PM to dessertratrodder. He has a salvage yard and has a bunch of old cars too! I've gotten a few things from him. Ask him what he has on hand right now. Last time I was there he had about 45 old cars or so. Nobody will beat his prices either!

Anyone selling a 49 three piece rear window ? I haven't started searching hard but , I have my eyes open for one . I have a 50 one piece now so I'll need everything , glass , rubber , and stainless .Thanks

 

Years ago we used to trim front window dividers to fit rear glass and attach to rear window to give the same effect. (saves the trouble of having to replace glass.)

Using that 53 Chevy grill on your Merc,if you cut the center bar,behind the center tooth,you can move the ends back so they follow the shape of the opening. Stand with you legs against the front bumper and look down. The grill will flow better if it follows the same contour of the hood. Do you understand what I mean?

 

Wow. That's really beautiful. Something about those low chopped four doors, especially without the spats.

P/S John , that was off the shelf Ford Mustang green . . . 1998 I think . We did a lot of stuff after the main coat was applied with gold pearl in the last few coats to make it shimmer a little . When it was new it was really awesome to behold , even though we painted it in my driveway , I think it came out pretty well .

We did a few extra coats with gold pearl on all the contours and humps to highlight it a little , but that's all it is . Base coat with no clear coat . . . looks like it's held up pretty well too for what it's worth .

I'm in, I have a 51 Woody Wagon that will someday see the outside of my barn. I'm looking for some better front fenders than I have. I'd even consider fiberglass.

 

I have a 302 with a Weiand tunnel ram that's going back in it for now. I would like to find a 60's period correct mill for this type of car but that is some research I haven't done yet. But it'll be fun trying to blow up that 5.0.
