This is a gift I received some years back when I was younger from my grandparents. The Story I was told about it is that it was drawn at some type of auto showcase, or new car show type event. I guess they had a car designer that was there who was drawing concept drawings. I have it hanging on the wall in my office, and thought I would share it with the rest of you. Perhaps someone will recognize the signature on it, maybe shed some light as to who drew it. I think it is obvious that it has quite a bit of ford/lincoln influence to it. It is charcoal on what appears to be a large construction paper. Its over all size is 24" x 36" so its a descent sized drawing. Any of you out there have any cool concept art from back in the day to share?
That is one wild looking car and I LOVE IT !!!!! Wish a car company would have followed through with it . As for the name , can't help you on that one .
From the look of the signature, it would appear that God drew that in '57. Apparently God has pretty good taste too.
it does not look like Harley Earl's, at least I don't think it does. Maybe I should go find his. Funny thing, is I thought it looked like it said "god" also.
Judging by that picture, I'd say God was doing work for Lincoln/Mercury in '57. I have a book called "Designing America's Cars: The 1950s" that has many similar sketches. Sometimes the artist is listed as well. I'll see if there is anything similar that may lend a clue.
Hey, Harley Earl wasn't an artist, and unlike Exner, Mitchell & Engle who could draw, and draw well, Earl usually just pointed, gestured and screamed at his designers/artists work. By 1957, the year of the drawing, Earl was two years from retirement from GM. The drawing does look Lincoln Mercurylike, however some designers did move from company to company taking their design ideas with them. Just look at the line of Elwood Engle's '61 Lincoln Contential while he was at Ford Motor Company. Now look at the design work he did in '62-'70, while head of design at Chrysler Corp.....same basic design/look. Swankey Devils C.C. "Meanwhile, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
I have that book too, if anyone is onto concept cars, this book is a MUST HAVE, i think i picked mine up at barnes and noble for under $10... Also, Automotive illustrator Ross Cousins is a local to me, one of the local print shops made a calendar using some of his sweet illustrations from the 50's and 60's a few years back. Heres a link to that- http://2005calendar.portageprinting.com/
