  13. 1940: sign is built by Ramsey Signs for White Satin Sugar Co. which rented space on the roof from White Stag Manufacturing. (sorry no photo)

1959: sign changed from "White Satin" to "White Stag" (the clothing company) and the deer is added.

1997: changed from "White Stag Sportswear" to "Made in Oregon - Old Town"

2006: Building is porchased by University of Oregon and plans are in the works to change the sign to "University of Oregon" but the deer will remain.

Located on 1st & Burnside, Portland OR

Ok, well i've got some from good ol' San Leandro, California:

i'll start just around the corner from my old high school. they tore down the shopping center and rebuilt it. thankfully they saved the sign:

right across the street from Palma Plaza is Ernie's Sea Food. Never been there, but hear it's good.

about 3-4 blocks south is pee wees pizza (with parking lot sign also included). been there since 1955 i think. burned down in 2006--the interior had not changed since the day it opened. thankfully, the sign was not damaged.

just down the street from Pee Wees: Since the early 60's i think.[IMG]
    bowling alley 2 miles away

so as they moved farther south (away from downtown) where orchards were, they built the Oakland Speedway (even though it is actually in San Leandro). It is now a Mall, and when I was a kid in the 80's, they had a drive-in, but that closed and was non-op for the time i knew it. (honestly it reminds me of Back to the Future--built a mall away from downtown where orchards and farms were in the 50's).
here's some information on the Oakland Speedway:

    and some GREAT pictures!

Perhaps the best burger in the state. Jerry's Beef Burgers, right on the border of SL/ Oakland. Since 1953. Go there if you have a chance.

the only other place in the world that can compete with Jerry's is Vals Burgers (since 1958) in Hayward:

when we lived in emeryville, we went here to Ole's Waffles in Alameda on saturday mornings as a kid. good times!

If this is the Bob Peck Chevrolet in Arlington, Virginia, it was torn down earlier this year.

Actually, that sign may still be up. The main dealership was torn down, but this one may have been on their truck/used car lot (down in the Clarendon area). I'll drive by this weekend and check.

Here's what Bob Peck looked like prior to being torn down:

The more I think about it, I'm pretty sure the sign posted above still stands on the old lot on Wilson Blvd.

For a long time, Prince's Hamburgers was an icon. Located just outside the skyscrapers of downtown Houston, they were the 50's drive-in. Sadly, with the growth of downtown Houston, they were forced to move. I still remember driving by with my dad and seeing the hot rods parked in front on Friday evenings. They cooked a damn good burger and the staff was always friendly.

The Fresno Tower Theater is a block from my house. They just replaced all the neon last year.
