When I finish my current woodie, a Model A woodie done in a 60's fashion will be next. There are a few hotrodder woodies on my website. Here is a Model T first some Model A's I normally do not like 2 dr versions but this was has some nice proportions one of my favorites (really dig the look of the T above) but this one has no windows, just original style curtains (I want to do the same thing with mine) another favorite (to me a pure surf ride, old wood makes it better) Not an A but similar in looks and a great style to it
Forgot to mention that if you join the National Woodie club, you can purchase some basic plans for about $10. there is a place in NY that build all the original brackets (about $4500 for all of the factory brackets) and also the original Model A wood for the same price. This is my plans unless I buy an original restored one and turn it into a hotrod (might save some money that way but its a steeper initial investment.)
...thanks Boones, those are cool examples, just what I was looking for....I actually really like that full-fendered 2-door..
woodies are very rare car , like pheatons . they died because they were convertibles , woodies died because of the wood . hope you do good it your '60's hot rod ... steve
Model A woodies turn up on Ebay occasionally, and the last couple of them had huge photo galleries, including detailed pics from almost any angle you could want. Keep an eye open and save the pics. Cheers, Glen.
Wow! Great stuff on there Boones, thanks! I like the proportions of the 2-drs. that have a shorter door than quarter... I have a really nice, clean, slant windshield cowl, and a buddy who is a really talented wood worker who wants to try a custom, chopped, 2-door build...
my dad started to build a 29 woody rod and gave up on it a traded him a vega for it i dont want the body it will be for sale with out the cowl ..if there is any intrest for it .. its a 2 door with 2 doors in the rear all red and white oak .
The cowl hood and radiator shell look like Dodge Brothers, the fenders and splash aprons look like '29 Model A
Boones and I are both NWC members.. lots of photos on my site.. go here: http://search.fotki.com/sawzallshop/ and hit the woodie and woody tags..
You are correct. Dodge with Ford A fenders. It's a daily driver for going on 2 decades and an original Donut Derelicts guy. Last time I saw it was at Papa Z's at the anti donut thing! There's a "chubby" girl on a surf board on the hood ornament.
Here's a home-grown panel from one of our donut gang members. Not sure how much he had to start with, but I understand he did all the woodwork and most of the metal work and paint. Well done little car, SBC powered.
I've spent many hours looking thru Sawzalls and Boones sites. The site that will keep you busy for days is Dave Lindsays. After you get done with the Woodies area check out the car shows for different years, especially the Huntington Beachcruisers. If that isn't enough, go thru the museums pictures http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/woodies/
I only just found this listing, and it's only got about 16 hours to go, but there's some great pics of a superb restored 30 Model A woodie on here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...015QQitemZ250351953905QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Cheers, Glen.
And another one! 29 Model this time, notice the difference above the front doors in the roofline. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars....c0.m245&_trkparms=72:727|65:12|39:1|240:1318 Apparently the 28-9 models used T coupe front door pillars which are about 3" taller than an A closed car pillar, hence the flat roof on the early models. The 30-31 models had a downward curved roof over the front doors, presumably they ran out of T pillars and used the shorter A ones on these. Cheers, Glen.
