I typed a really smart ass remark. But then I realized that Mike might be my neighbor and it looks like San Jose might be named after him

Howdy neighbor. I'm happy with my 350... :D

Want street torque? Go the 350, if you want revs and top end power, consider the 327.

I like the 327 in my car so much,it's the third vehicle it's been in. I put 350's in the other cars before I sold them.

327 because its a less common belly button, old enough to be cool, but still cheap to build.

I love mine, may be imagination but it just seems like they rev quicker than a 350?

  19. You asked for our oppinion so here is mine. I've had and have both in my vehicles. They both are great engines. I like the 327's a lot, just a little different than the typical 350 that most people have or use.

Basically they are the same engine with one exception. The 327 has a 3.250 stroke and the 350 has a 3.480 stroke. The cam is in the same location as is the deck height and they both have a 4.000 bore and a 5.700 long rod. With the longer stroke of the 350 you have increased the rod angle, so it trys to push the piston through the cylinder wall more so than the shorter stroke 327. This situation can be helped by using a 6.000 inch rod instead of the 5.700 stock length rod. You would also need to change pistons to compensate for the increased rod length. They are both great engines, their roots going back over 50 years to 1955.

Put a 350 in my car cause it was closer to being done than a rebuild on the 327 $$$. Now I'm going to put the original 327 back in #'s match and all that stuff. Plus it's a 327 NUFF SAID:cool:

  22. run em both..several times...think the general opinion here will be quicker revvin and more cubes..from the likers of each ...freind of mine Rick ar D&J automotive spent 2 years talking me into a 400 for my vega wagon...to be un-blown at that time...40 over 400??get the right block and it's the way to go in my opinion..revs??my shift tach is set at 3950 in the wagon...no need for quick hi revvin sbc....more cubes???50 + more then the 350...torque??well before i got to 3200 it was making 390 ft lbs torque///blown....580 ftlbs torque at 4000.....but hey, put the one YOU like the most..and as stated, it really does depend what ya want to do with it and how you're going to drive it...the wagon??blown??i can get in it and yank the nose before john law can realize...and ya don't need too much room or speed......shuts down alot of the "stop light street racers" from wanting to hit it.............

well, i was gonna say "what have ya got and what do ya want to do with it?"

  24. 327=7200 RPM shifts with stock forged internals in a light car. All day long. Nothing like the sound of 7000+ shifts. And, 20mpg. I've had dozens. Still got the makin's on the shelf for my next light car. The large journal blocks last forever at 11-1 comp.
Longer stroke 350= more torque for heavier cruisers with automatics.
99% of lookers can't tell a 350 from 406-421"sbc. I love it cause I'm an old ,(retired), street racer.

Small journal 327's are cool. They have the crankcase vent provision built into the block so you can run the valve covers without the vents.

I really like 327s, they seem to have a good rod length to stoke ratio and make good power with basically stock parts. But if you're looking for horsepower (aren't we all), I'd go with the 350. If you have 2 similar built engines, the one that has the most cubic inches is usually gonna make the most horsepower.
As far as the rpm deal goes, a good 350 built for roundy round racing will go 7500 rpms twice a lap all season long with no trouble and a drag racing 350 can go 10,000 rpm if it needs too. How many rpms do you need?

my experience has been that the 327's run cooler than the 350's,meaning they don't seem to overheat.

For every day use, or in a street rod application, you couldn't tell the difference. All depends on what your going to be doing with it
