  4. wow, i take it everyone heres seen "christine"....back in high school my folks didnt think it was too funny i had my 52 named ruby and my 65 named selina. actualy, selina is the reason i was in a doctors office and put on prozac, to this day i dont see her as a car, she is much more, hell, i never loved a girl as much as i do selina. she was actually named after a girl who was riding in selina with me laaaaate one night at about 125 mph down a dark backwoods road with hills and sharp turns, i was almost pissin my pants about to roll the 65 when i look over and she's having an orgazm with excitement.....thus selina was named after her ahahahahahah. thats just wrong, im sorry. selina didnt like my prom date, or any girl for that matter, kinda like christine, she would do funky things with the radio and wipers, seriously, only when a girl was in the seat....i know im crazy but it couldnt be just a coinsident?!??!?!?

Blondie for the champagne 65 buick , Bertha for the 56 olds, besides you have to name it something other than piece of shit or mother fucker. Those names are used as a term of endearment for the sweat equity invested.

When we bought the car, it had "SPLASH" signwritin on the oil filled air cleaner, so, thinking that it was someones baby in the past, we kept the name.........later, we had the history lesson to find out the ACTUAL reason for the name.

    The name still sticks.

I don't have anything against naming a car. When I first got my license, I had a '59 T-Bird I called "Schnitzel". My Model A, I restored in the '70s, sold it in 1991, and bought it back this past May. I was thinking of calling it "Cinderella". My grandfather had a 1951 DeSoto he called "Beulah". My fathers oil trucks all had names. In my thread "Big Trucks", "Dinky" and "Jerry" are pictured, also shown below. Not pictured (yet), the Mack was "Corky", the GMC was "Jeffrey", The little Dodge was "Tony", and the White was "Fritz".

After my teenage daughter seen the movie "Christine", and heard the line "You can't polish a turd !!", I hear it every time I wash the Pontiac. So now its affectionately known as "The Turd"

Buck. It stands for, "Big Ugly Car." The K is silent. :)

When I first brought it home, my wife asked me if I was going to name it. Usually, I'm pretty logical and literally minded and don't do romantic, artsy things like ascribing personalities to steel. (Not that there's anything wrong with romance or art!) So I thought for a moment and decided to give it a boy's name. I figured she would be less jealous of the time I spend working on it instead of gazing into her beautiful eyes.

    So far so good.

When my ma bought her Lincoln it had about 3" of water on the floor. So now she calls it Vivian, "the Lady of the Lake".

  17. Just call mine, "The Roadster."

As vs. "The Ranger" - 4x4 Ranger.

And Sweetie's pickup, big ol 4 door F-150 SuperCrew is "Gail's Truck."

I have three daughters, 8,7 and 4. For some reason, they have named my car "Hot Gracie", not just "Gracie", its "Hot Gracie". They have corrected me on this numerous times.

Hope they don't ask me to paint it on her...

It was common place in the 60's to name your car.....and it was generally painted on it somewhere
55 Chevy 2 dr "The Duke"
    57 Ford " Mean Motorscooter"
61` Chevy Conv. "Last of my Bad ones"

  25. When I was a kid the neighbors had an old Stude Lark they called "Herk" - never could figger out why. My '56 Victoria is "Summer Girl" Hoping to get it penned onto the deck next year by a pinstripe/lettering specialist in early 60's style.

my 62 Caddy is known as "Grace". Because after not moving much for 29 years, by the Grace of God she made the 40 mile trip home under her own power in the rain with no wipers, a leaking trans, and no choke plates on the carb.

And yes they can all hold conversations and get really pissy when I spend too much time with one over the others.

  30. You remember that stuff too? Thought I was the only one. Yeah the kids who hung with my big brother back then all named their cars. Some I remember was "Jolly Roger" a skyblue '48 Ford coupe, complete with skull & Xbones, "Marmaduke"- an ugly brown '58 Ford,I guess named after the cartoon dog, "Skippy", a turquoise '56 Belaire, and "Dutch Treat", I think it was a '58 Chevy. Oh, those days...
