Right now it's 3.30 on Sunday afternoon. There's a summer storm brewing overhead, and it's hot and sticky.

Oh yeah, and as far as Aussie girls go, here's a few of our Brisbane Broncos cheerleaders for you.

Big surprise there!

You could always show pix of YOUR car to bring it back on topic!

I visited Perth and Sydney while returning from the Persian Gulf one year on the USS Ranger. Loved it. Looked / felt like Socal but they drive on the wrong side of the road. DO NOT try to out drink an Aussie lady. They have a lot more practice than you probably do. While I've entertained moving there, I'm too old I guess. But shipping my rod there some day and traveling around for a year or so might be doable. I loved the people but had a hard time with the wierd slang... things like... "Bob's your Uncle." You can hold an entire conversation there in perfectly understandable English and not know what the fuck is being said! Gary

its hard to say how it compares to any other place because ive never been out of australia.
I live in sydney, this is australia's arse hole.
before here i lived in newcastle, we went to local events and cruise nights once or twice every weekend up there, as for cars we do like 6's, and v8's, i like 6's. my wife has a v8 but, like USA we also have dorks in rice cars, we have lots of big events, we often travel 1000 k's or more to get to our favourite events and personally i have much more fun travelling a long distance to a event than one that is local.

6. Sydney is not Australia's arsehole. Some outer suburbs probably have a pretty good view of it, but Sydney's a great city. Expensive to live in, but if you've got the dough, it's a great place to live.

I wouldn't bother bringing a car with you for a holiday. By the time you pay for freight, duties, cleaning for customs ( maybe quarantine ) registration, insurance you'll be up for the best part of 5 grand.

Better to buy an Aussie car out here and sell/dump it before you leave. There are some cool old rigs on Aussie ebay, you could even buy one before you get here.

Oh, this is a drop bear. They are only found in gum trees, so not such a problem in the cities.

I had to do some actual work for a change & haven’t checked on this thread for a few days.

Our plans for moving are off the table. We may pick it up later (years) but moving is no longer a consideration for now.
<O:p</O:p
A visit is a consideration for us. I’m sure it would take us at least 12 months to put a trip for us together. Carla is getting our passports together & I’m sure there are a lot of stuff we will need decide on like when, how long, etc… I would certainly want to check out the hot rod scene but typical tourist stuff will be a big part of the trip.
<O:p</O:p
How about a group of Texan/American hot rodders hooking up with a group of Aussie hot rodders. Like an Americruize in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]<ST1:pAustralia. Lots of big issues to resolve for a deal like this. It certainly seems impossible. On the other hand. Pull it off & the grin factor would be huge!
<O:p</O:p
You folks do have a single event that is the big run of your season? Where would a group start? What kind of stuff could we (foreigners) check out along the way?. How much time would we need? I rode along with my Daddy from Texas to Nebraska</ST1:place a few years back. Our group started in San Antone (sponsored/lead by Vintage Air). The run up there was about a week with various interesting stops along the way & the event was about 3 days.
<O:p</O:p
Importing cars looks to be a real hassle. Especially for a short visit & then ship it back. A high roller might try it but average Joes would be out on a deal like that. It is also unlikely that a small fleet of vintage beaters would be available for sale. Buying a beater & dumping it upon departure would almost certainly be an unreasonable expense. It would also be difficult for families to team up in rides with other group members. Rentals seems to be in order thus killing the vibe to a certain extent.
<O:p</O:p
I would expect a visit with local friends to be a lot more fun than just showing up & bumbling around. A Texas family hooking up with an Aussie family would almost certainly result in a long lasting friendship. I’m not inviting myself to your house. We would budget in hotel lodging.
<O:p</O:p
A group of Texans/Americans hooking up with a group of like minded Aussies would certainly result in several life long friendships. (“like minded” sounds pornographic when you say it out loud)
<O:p</O:p
Group stuff would probably be best left up to some sort of travel business. There’s a movie coming out soon that may drive some tourist dollars your way. We might pitch the hot rod idea to your tourism department.
<O:p</O:p
Drop bear? What a cutie. We’ll have to get one of those for sure. Jet (my hog dog) would love that thing. I completely forgot about Jet. Traveling with pets. Another needless complication.
