  2. 400 HP @ 10,000 rpm with "street cams" one hell of a top end in a light car! Wonder what that sounds like?

    just wicked-
a UK based company makes one as well at 2.6 liters though...
it is wider and less custom.

    Yea! What he said!

Slick little motor tho. If I ever win the lotto, I'll buy one and put it in a riced out Kia Rio, and go hunting Z-06 corvettes! :D

Uses two Suzuki Hayabusa heads. There's a few different manufacturers of similar bits, pretty cool.

Probably not far off. But don't forget the 429 probably weighs about 3-4 times a much. And, I doubt the 429 makes anywhere near 2+ hp per cubic inch like this does.

This certainly isn't an engine for too many people, myself included, but seems pretty darn cool for what it is and does sound like it might have some ass-kicking inside it.

    They're "just under $30k".

    Here's what one sounds like:

It sounds like a screamer, ugly but a screamer.

  15. Sounds like a chain saw. Wonder what it would do with twin turbos?

I'd rather have an engine that sounds cool and has tons of torque.

Yup, nice piece of engineering, but even in a light car how often are you going to be able to hit 7,500 R.P.M. much less 10,000? And of course with all that engineering applied to a 429 you'll end up with 2+ h.p. per cubic inches, but it would also be in a R.P.M. range that you actually drive......:)

umm Honda makes a production car with 9k rpm limit.. so I don't think hitting 7500 rpm is that hard. just all depends on gearing.

As was stated, it doesnt really belong in traditional rod, but holy shit that Caterham must be a rush to drive. I think it's great for it's intended purpose.

Dam! Sounded like the motor was gonna blow on the dyno! Wonder what kinda mileage you could squeeze outta one of these in a car that weighed under 3,000 lbs....

I useta have a Lotus Super 7 (same as a Caterham -- when Lotus quit making them, Caterham bought the design) with a 1340 cc pushrod Ford engine in it. 81 cubic inches, right around 100 hp, in a car that weighed right on 1000 pounds. Amazingly fast car; I cannot imagine what it would be like with 400+ hp.

My goodness, very impressive pictures of the engine in productions. who would have thought it that you would just machine a crankcase out of a billet of aluminum.
Fantastic pictures. Love that new crank!

$28,000 is cheap for that thing.

wow, that is awesome! Would love to get my hands on one of those for a project. I had a 422whp engine that reved to 8500rpm. 2.4L that got over 35 mpg and ran mid 11s on pump gas. Not gonna say what kinda car tho... LOL

  26. I bet it feels like a gutless pile off idle. I'll stick to my Pontiac 400. 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Beat that. That engine is the size of a damned 2 ltr pop bottle. No thanks!! Torque is what you like to feel!!

Ooh, wee, it's not even considered an order until they get a $4K deposit. I don't see any block prices, but might make the $28K of this motor seem pretty cheap.

I am starting to really like this thread because it is beginning to make the cost of my 392 hemi seem like a bargain.
