Well, I guess I am going to have to hope for a rainy Illinois weekend then. I usually could squueze in a trip down there at the beginning of April, but now you have moved it into the prime corn planting time. Boo Hoo.
Sorry Plowboy, the move was to facilitate the Round Up not conflicting with any other major event, like the Urban Music Festival (Crotch Rockets) and the Track Meets (Excessive Parking taken up downtown), not to mention all the 0500am noise in the hotel/motel parking lots that HAMBers endured last year. April 19th is a good weekend that doesn't seem to intermingle with any state events in the Spring. Hope you can still figure something out and make it!
who do we contact about vendor spots? I was set up there last year - will want to do so again this year........ this time will just bring the necessities - none of the extra..... Thanks
Go here coolstuff: http://www.lonestarroundup.com/vendors.html There's a contact email on whom to talk to about a vendor site.
Best weekend of the year, hands down. The whole experience last year of a 6 month thrash and getting the car on the road the 2 days before the show and having the 200 mile drive to Austin (at 85mph the whole way) also double as the shake down run... I'll never forget it. I'm already excited like a kid on Christmas morning
Hell I just submitted my vacation slip for Thursday and Friday for this.Want to spen an extra day up there in Austin instaed of arriving on Friday like we did last year.
If you want to stay close to the night action look for hotels on South Congress between Oltorf and Barton Springs. I know there is an Embassy Suites and Hyatt in that area that are real nice... but not cheap. The drive to the Travis County Expo center is not bad from the downtown area. Check the website out... http://www.lonestarroundup.com/map.html
Retro, my wife knows this city like the back of her hand. She's currently compiling a list of "have to" restaurants and pubs and a list of motel/hotels. She's doing it cuz I suck at directions...lol Once it's done, I'll be posting a seperate thread with the list and links as well as put a post on here with the link. Will probably add the link to my sig as well. Keep in mind, the gal that is compiling that list for you guys, loves expensive beer, cheap wine and can change the oil on her own car! ...oh, and has her motorcycle license too. (I'm a lucky man) Cheers! Jef
Thanks for the dates. I will be there along with the rest of us voodoo dolls. We absolutely love this show. It draws the best of both people and cars. C-you then kontinentals.
So, instead of booking a flight and hotel room for the show, I decided just to move to Austin. See ya there!
Will be my first one. Really looking forward to meeting some great people and checking out all the cars I've wanted to see for some time. Also will be the first show that people get to check out "HOYS HAULER" since the early 60's... Whitey
The best time ever, the best cars ever, the best non-filtered cigarettes ever, and the best music ever! Support the bands guys, my band wish for 09' is to see Dave Gonzales' and Mike Barfield's new act, The Stone River Boys.
Ok Guys and Dolls, as promised, I have posted a thread for locations for eateries and drinkeries as compiled by my wife, Laura. As she said, "it's by no means an exhaustive list", but will be modified as yall ask questions. I'm on the computer daily, so if you have a question/need, please PM me and I will reply to You as well as add it to the list for anyone else that may find your request information useful. Here is the link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306194 Cheers! Jef
Help, I want to book a room but have no idea where as I have never been to Austin. I want to get in the thick of things too. So...............
Hey Denise You still planning on coming down to the Beach Hop, nostalgia drags etc?? If not, I guess we could always catch up at the RU
I plan on being a vendor again this year. Great people, great cars, great town. I hope to camp out on the fairgrounds again this next round up. Only a few took advantage of that last year. I was the guy in the little tent, hanging out in the lounge chair at night staring at the starry sky. Dug the guys doing donuts out in the dirt.
Yeah but what will you have to drive? Wanna borrow the green Convert? Yours Truly The Stairmaster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BB
