Worst trades ever. Everybody's made one, share yours!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flynbrian48, Sep 30, 2008.

  1. About 10 years ago, I traded a non-matching numbers 1970 Pro Street Hemi Cuda for a 74 Pantera.
Looking back, that wasn't a smart move. About 4 trades and sells later I was able to trade my way into my 32 Ford Sedan so I guess it all come out in the end.

Back in 72 I bought a 61 Jaguar XK150 drop head coupe (convertible) From an upholstery shop, cause the owner couldn't pay the tab on the full leather makeover. Didn't know squat about Jags, and it had an automatic, so I traded it for a 72 Pontiac grand Am, and as much cash as I had in it. Man was I slick.
That Jag is worth well over 100k today.

I traded a 1966 Chevy II, with a 327 and 4-speed, 2-door hardtop for $400. That was my worst trade EVER!!

5-6 years ago I traded a two days of fab work for brand new 1/2" Milwaulkee Right Angle Drill and Dewalt Sawzall, plus a cherry 1986 Mazda B-2200 pickup to tear up and down the streets in......right until it spun a bearing. Still have the tools and they work flawlessly

I think my worst trade will be hard to beat. Traded a 65 plymouth A/FX with out motor and trans for a restorable 40 ford sedan. I guess I wanted an old car kinda bad. The 65 was in super condition and the 40 was a pig but complete. Looking back I can't believe how stupid I was. This was in 1972. That same 40 sedan is worth about the same today as it was back then, but the A/FX is another story. Steve

I traded my sanity (and hard earned cash) for a bunch of crappy old cars and the right to be acknowledged as the village idiot.

    But guess what?

    I wouldn't have it any other way:D

1968 chevy short wide (nice), and a 1962 impala ss hard top (nice) for 3500 bucks, so I could keep my house. I just wish I had that impala back. At the time the money was needed more than the cars were.

The lottery is merely a tax on people that are bad at math.

  13. My 46 for my 65 Nova. Both great cars in their own rights. I just felt the need for speed with a 4 spd and posi rear again. I'd gladly swap back if I could.

I traded my purity for a night of excessive hedonistic sexual pleasures. Wish I had some more of that purity to trade again.

    1. I traded a fantastice original paint '41 Indian Chief for a home repaired and maintained '14 Thor single. The Indian was the best prewar unrestored bike I have seen in my life. Probably $55,000 today. The Thor as I got rid of it ws a fraction of that. Duh!

    2. '61 Vette for $7K cash. Spent that on bills. Duh!

    3. The all time worst trade for me...sigh......a '42 Indian 4 clean, with matching numbers, but needing restored, for a nice '42 Nimbus 4, a nice BSA M20 miitary bike, and a so-so BSA M- something I forget single not running. Double Duh!

    4. Best trade? I traded the '14 Thor project for a '12 HD project. I get to subtract two Duh's for that.

i sold my clean 4-door 57 chevy in 1992 for $400, got trashed and beat the hell out of my 71 plymouth with a ford starter sold it fer $50!!!! glad i grew up!!!!

  19. Friend of mine needed a set of small block Chevy heads....another friend said he had a set for me. I killed 2 birds with one stone by telling one buddy to pick the heads up from my other buddy free of charge. Turned out they were 186 LT1 heads....my bad.

  20. I went through a whole season of "Dumb Ass". Sold my '69 Torino 351W GT Fastback for $650, so I could finish my '66 Nova (some what understandable). Then I traded the Nova for a beater 4x4 '73 Suburban so I could tow/race a buddys '67 Camaro Stocker (G/SA), we needed a tow vehicle. Then traded the Suburban and my '65 Olds 442 for a '62 Chevy truck with 396/turbo 400. Then traded the '62 truck for a '70 3door suburban with a dead 307 2bbl. Then got my girlfriend pregnant, sold everything I had to buy a house in Lancaster, Ca. for $90,000, only to have the market go south in '90, house dropped to $62,000, girlfriend became my ex-wife, but I got a beautiful baby girl out of it. Through the grace of God and 20 years things are a lot better now!

Thanks for posting on the *cadillac cruisers* post, to me once you've had a big old Cadillac there's no go back to something smaller. :D Here's hoping you wake up and come back over to the Caddy side of life. Truck's are cool, there just not Caddy's, see you in the cruising lanes, some where down the road.
Never made a bad trade although sold a very cool '57 Chevy, I wish was still in my garage. Oh, well......................

    CRUISER

I am sort of inheriting my brothers cherry '63 Coupe DeVille and '67 DeVille convert, as he's moving from Westland MI to Melborn Australia! So, while I don't actually OWN a Caddy, I have a couple to use :D!

  24. 1983, ZZTop was cool so I wanted to be like them. Traded my 40 Ford PU for a 33 Plymouth coupe. Painted it red and thought I was a sharp dressed man. Hey, Dummy!!
