Well done my friend! It killed me not to be there this year. Even though Tony couldn't go, I was going to be there with my film crew....but that is another long, long story. You guys ROCK!

    FAbian,

Good to see you again, I had a kick ass time on the salt and the drive there was the best part.

Are these guys the old Bean Bandits? or the grandsons of the old Bean Bandits? Either way, like the fellow above said, They Rule!

    THE BEAN BANDITS?!?!?!?
Forgive me, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but....you guys are still around?!

When I was a kid, I inherited a bunch of Hot Rod's (magainzes, that is) from the late 60's and early 70's, that were originally my older brother's.
Back then, the back cover was either "Highboy of the month" or a "back in the good ol' days" section, that used to recap some early hot rod and drag racing action.
One of those issues showed an early Rail that was built and raced by....THE BEAN BANDITS.
I think the pics dated from sometime around the mid 50's ('54-'56, something like that).

They are accredited (in that article) as the first people to go (hold onto your shorts, now), 140 MPH in the 1/4 mile.

The pics show the rail they did it with, right after it had happened.

I was unaware The Bean Bandits were still around. Wow, my hats off to you guys.
    Nice work.

When I attended the 50th Anniversary Speedweek in '98, Joaquin was there with the Bandits. I have a picture of a good sized hole in one of their blocks! One of the TV stations was interviewing Joaquin, and I have pix of that, too!

The Bean Bandits legacy will live forever.

The Bean Bandits' webmaster, Guy Espinoza, and I became E-mail buddies back in 1996. Three years later, we met at Bonneville Speed Week, where I got the chance to see firsthand just how much fun these guys have.

They might not always feel like it, but they're some of the luckiest people around.

Ha, shananigans is definetley the appropriate word!!!! Records or not we all have a great time!!!!! It is always good to see old faces and meet new ones! Julio built that tank in about 18 days, finished up some minor details out on the salt ( true bean bandit style) and made a shake down run at 101mph. (with the flathead out of his A coupe)!

We are the young gen. of Bean Bandits. But the original members are still involved, three of them came out to bonneville with us.....pure entertainment!!!

As far as the liner, we broke a record in the V4F/BGS. It was 105, and our two speed average was 138mph!!!! With a little more coxing we got a top speed of 140 at the 2 mile, but with the "flat head A" seeming a bit tired we decided to pack it in, and fight another day!
I got the chance to drive the "Boners High Speed Div" roadster, open cars are the best for getting a feeling like running on the salt back in the day!

We had the 2nd fastest flahead banger out at the salt, the stewart family had the fastest (155mph). We definetley want to acomplish more, we'll see what we come up with!
I really want to thank all the people that help make this happen: Tom Branch, Diana Branch, Jeff Buchar, Jake Hummel, Rene Lugo, Jose Soriano, Hop Up Magazine, Originals Hot Rod Club U.K., Auto Power, Especially the Arnett Family and all The Bean Bandits!!

Fabian is okay I guess if you like World Record Holders at Bonneville. I have not seen a group of guys on the salt that enjoy it more. Hope to see you guys in Austin for the Roundup. Tom Bitros in Dallas
