I love this thread, kick ass fab work. That steering set up is the best i have seen not being a sprint car box. You helped solve some of my problems with my steering. I need to see more.

    A few updates, nothing earthshattering.

After making the steering column, and setting the angle that suited me best, I had to notch out the dash a bit.

I'm running 48-52 Ford F-1 pedals. Originally I was going use a 1940 single chamber master cylinder, that requires 3 mounting holes, but my friend Sandy, convinced me to go with a newer style dual master cylinder instead (those need two mounting holes), just to be on the save side.
So I decided to make an adaptor to fit the F-1 pedals to the newer/safer MC.
I basically took a piece of 1/4" plate, drilled holes for both hole patterns, tapped the holes, inserted the 3/8" bolts (heads cut off) and tig welded the back side, so nothing would come loose, later on.
    Voila everything just bolts together.

    Outstanding work......nice details.....CLEAN!
What are the headlights? The signal pods are taller than most I've seen....
The 2nd to last pic above....it looks like the grill shell is a little low?

The grille shell could be higher, huh. I appreciate the input.
I think 1" higher would work.

  10. I would agree. The tape looks ok but it is up on the radiator cap opening. I would thnik you want the line from the cowl to the back edge of the grill shell to be in line. I would think and inch would be perfect.

I think it should go up 1/8". ;):D

RIGHT THERE! I think that's it...

Do you need to put any weight in the rear to see if it changes things?

Man that's lookin' great! It's always cool when you get the grille shell up there so it looks like a car!

Dreadman, nice job, great details! Did you fab those headlight stanchions? They look like they have a real nice cross section. Those headlights are sweet:cool:

No, I didn't make those, but I fell in love with those headlights at the Primer Nationals, a company called OTB gear, www.otbgear.com makes them, ultra high quality.

can't believe if missed the posts on this thing, it's coming along great.

oh yeah to make the grille 100% just put a level on the bottom of the door glass opening or belt line, and set the grill to cowl line at the same degree.

    Exhaust:
Lake pipes. I used exhaust flanges made by "Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle" www.hotrodchassisandcycle.com/parts_cars.php , solid stuff, highly recommended, and a SBC lake pipe kit.
I never liked how some guys just run straight pipes into the "cone", I went a slightly more difficult route, and more esthetically pleasing, I think (thanks to the Tardels and Sellers, for the inspiration).
Cutting the "duck bills" was time consuming, but in the end well worth it.
I basically cut all the "bent" pipe, with a cut off wheel.
Ground everything to the desired shape/contour. I also used a big round file, to make them fit perfectly.
The radius on the "duck bills" vari, because I'm using a tapered cone, so patience comes into play, and lots of it.
Check it out, I did one side today, "all day" and I'm still not finished, but I will get the exhaust perfect for plating, if it's the last thing I do, damn it.
