There is now a group page dedicated to Holley 94's with even more info than this page. You can join HERE

I've been on a mission looking up all I can on Holley 94's. Here are the links to all the useful Holley 94 threads and websites I found as well as sites people have suggested. I pretty much included anything that had Bruce Lancaster's advice. If you have questions about anything to do with these carbs or multi setups with these carbs then these are the threads to check out. The first 5 links are to a couple very useful pages.

Basicly they could reprint everything bruce said on here into a Phone book sized book and i'd never have to ask a question again, infact if there was such a book nobody would be on here asking questions, we'd all be out driving or building our cars

As an added note... I have 7 of them to build very soon and I'm about to do a feature on at least one complete rebuild. I'll definitely keep you guys posted.

That's all you guys get for now... Things are VERY busy here and I want to take my time and make sure the article/feature is worth while. There are plenty of rebuild articles and stuff out there, but I'm just not satisfied with the level of detail most of them go into. I'm hoping to improve on that a bit. The lot of carbs that I bought were completely disassembled with the exception of ONE that I had to tare down to see how these things work. Whatever I put together I really want to be for someone who really just insn't a pro at carbs. I'll be the first to admit I've always struggled with fuel mixing devices. This is for those people in the same boat...

I'll keep you guys posted though.

One thing about these Holley 94s........they really LOOK LIKE a caruretor. If I was editing a new dictionary I'd have to use that last photo above the word;"carburetor, a fuel mixing device used on early gasoline engines"

I have to appologize here. I haven't got to finish the Tech article I started yet. I haven't even finished my own carbs yet for my build. I promise I will do it. Sorry for the delay. Things are just absolutely insane around here.

BTTT for Dreddybear and other 94 enthusiests. Please add links for any missing threads. Let's keep building this thread.

Bookage: An excellent and readily available source is the later Ford service bulletin set, 1938--48, at your nearest Ford resto place. Around 1938--9 there are bulletins fully detailing all carb circuit functions and a magnificent rebuild guide. There are also chart allowing identification of those internal parts that differ between models.
I've got a circa 1939 Holley tech sheet for 8 and 12 models, and a fairly fat folder collecting all the info I have tripped over in my hunting. Gotta get that scanner...
There are areas I avoid...I don't generally buy common cores if shaft is loose, as the things aren't bushed and I think it would take a mill to accurately enlasge holes for bushing. The eccentric wear would seem to make just drilling inaccurate. Ford had it easy...their instruction for a worn throttle body was to toss it and install a new assembly!

When I get a scanner...I have all sorts of scraps of info from numerous sources.
How about some pictorial tech from someone altering the gasket surface on the Holly four barrel power valves?? I haven't gotten there yet...still have a few correct 94 type PV's, but the last NAPA kit I bought contained the late PV. Looks like just installing the thing will lead to a very shaky situation down there, and is going to cause some of the users who don't know about the problem some interesting tuning problems...
These are dirt simple carbs to work on, but the rapid growth of the wrong parts industry is starting to make them tricky again...

Don't got no electric tech for pics...
Look at hole for PV from underside: There is a flat ring around it for the gasket to seat againsy. Look at power valve...it will either have a flat area matching that ring (correct) or a flat ring farther out that will precisely miss the ring on carb body (Rong!). Gaskets exist for each, and either gasket will be worthless for a mismatch.
I think if the wrong PV is simply screwed in, the tapered are of its casting will jam against the 94 hole and gasket in such a way that it might or might not seal (and stay sealed).
I believe some people have found metal crush washers to seal the things (Source?? Part number?), and some have turned the PV in a lathe to cut a flat where needed. As I said, I have not faced the problem yet, and want to see what people have done.
There is also a frequent mismatch upstairs, where some of the common upper spring retainers on PV bind against rear wall of bowl. There is plenty of metal there, and a slight buzz with a grinder will open up the area there.

  17. scootermcrad, that first shot of the carb tops is great.

I'll be watching this thread. Can't offer much, I'm here to learn.

Just noticed...one of the bases shown above is a four-bolt Lincoln. What bowl does that one have?? Sifting for info here...Lincoln parts book is a bit foggy.

I had always planned on running a single four barrel carb, just because of not knowing the multi-carb set ups. The multi-carb set up get my blood flowing and looks killer.

    Good thread

There's some good info in that Street Rodder article, but it leaves out some details that you don't realize unless you've dealt with them before. You'll see what I mean if you follow it while building a carb. Definitely has some good information in it though!

  27. That's cause they want you to buy this:

"For a comprehensive, in-depth look at Stromberg and Holley carburetors, order a copy of the "Complete Flathead Ford Engine Manual" from the Hot Rod Library: (800) 513-8133. It includes a chapter on 94s and 97s by Jere Jobe, ed."

For overhaul, order repro sets of 1938-48 Ford service bulletins. Full coverage of overhaul, operating details, and parts ID were put in about 1939 or so when the carb had reached full development. There are a couple of other useful manuals, probably not as necessary, from Ford and Holley, and a few of the specs (how big is that little hole way down there??) have to be gathered from multiple sources.
Any old Ford parts place has the bulletins.
There is a lot of good info (and some dubious oddities) in the Smith book, but it isn't really a manual.
