I work for Cargill I have so for 20 years they have been in cotton here since 1980....I work as a supervisor. Thanks to our dumbass thinking politicians in Sacramento they cut the water off to the cotton growers and has killed a 200 year old commodity. In 1988 California grew 1,000,000 acres of cotton and as of june 1 this year the crop is down to 200,000 acres and then they cut the water. Cargill the smart company that they are sees no change for the better so is pulling out of California. This will be a huge ripple effect in agriculture in California so be ready to pay out the ass for food. As of August 31 2008 for the first time ever I will be job hunting. My rant.

Sounds about right in this country anymore. It is getting worse and worse with out of control stupid politicians. Both parties. Makes me sick.

Royalshifter, I am right there with you. I am 54 years young, white and not bi-lingual. After working 36 years (and having to get new employment several times due to company closings, etc.), I can even buy a job now.

Thats awful on so many levels.
The generation before me (I was born in 1950) had one job for the adult years and then a somewhat comfortable retirement. Then my generation came along and we hit the workforce in the early 70's and us lucky ones didn't bounce around too much but today...I just don't know how people hold it together as well as they do.
Any mention about relocating with them somewhere else?

They said I could go to Memphis and I told them no.

  14. Man, that rots. I know you'll land on your feet. I'll be praying for ya.

  15. That sucks The same kind of secenaro is happening all across the country. Everything cost more and good jobs are dissappearing . The county where we live is having financial problems so now they want to put on a 1.5 cent sales tax. The sales tax is already 11% dont they realize workers cant carry all the burden forever. There is such a thing as the straw that breaks the camels back! OldWolf:mad:

They are closing down all the good businesses, driving out small businesses, and squeezing the little guy. The gov't must want us all to be welfare dependent minimum wage citizens in a socialist society.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, cept instead of looking for a job I went to college. Here in Arkansas there is a program for dislocated workers that sends you to school for an associates degree, paid for the school and all supplies, and pays you unemployment while you are there. Dont know about California but it might be something to look into.

  24. Sorry to hear that RS! Hopefully you can get hooked up. Seems California just keeps getting worse...

  25. I was having a good day until I heard that. Consider yourself the new "name" in hot rod and vintage drag car restoration. Put the word out and you will get some work. Just you watch, this will all turn out for the better! If you think I can help in any way don't hesitate to ask!

  26. That sucks. Good luck in your new adventure.

Ohio offers the same. My fiancee is one class away from a double degree since losing her job in '05. More people should take advantage of education opportunities in cases like this.

I feel your pain, sort of. I was informed Friday that they are sutting down 3rd shift were I work. Im the supervisor, I was offered 2nd shift. At least I have a job, but 2nd doesn't work for my family schedule. Wife works full time and we have 3 kids all involved in activities. I took the position for the time being because I need the job, but I'm looking.
