Indeed, very cool shot that really depitcs the whole visceral feel that comes from driving a FED But it wasnt his last FED. The car here was from 64-65. His last ride was in Sept of 1970 when he blew his foot off.

Pete Biro mounted the camera just behind the engine. The trigger device used wasn't mentioned.

I was just copying what was published the the Autoweek Magazine that came out today...their 50 Year Anniversay collectors issue. Biro kept good records, but, hey..."its a drag car in motion".

Hi all, just signed up to ask if anyone out there has any shots of the Sheepherder AA/FA circa early 70's when it was running the sohc ford motor?

  15. To quote someone from an earlier SWC post, I almost spit soda on my keyboard!! I love it. Now I don't feel so bad about only being able to post thumbnails.

Yeah either that or the driver took it some other way. No wireless devices back then.

I'm fairly certain this photo was taken by Pete Biro at an early Winternationals. May have been one of his first since his comment was basically WTF. You do remember Sports Car Graphic...don't you. Any way this was given to me as an 8x10 BW loonng ago. we enlarged it '67-'68 ? by making an 11x17 negative and printing on the largest photo paper we had.I made this from a 2 pass scan and the registration is only so so

I remember Sports Car Graphic. As for the photographer's response, there are many auto enthusiats whose first exsposure to the violent explosive of world of drag racing leaves them speechless and recanting their opinions like "whats the big deal. How tough could it be." I recall meeting the accaquintance of former top fuel pilot, Jim Busby. Busby later raced BMW's in the IMSA series; sort of European trans-am style stuff. Think of a Beemer with pro stocker level of mods, but can turn left or right at 90 MPH. At the time of our conversation, Busby was the importer of Jawa speedway motorcycles. Anyway, Busby told me in conversing through out the years with the sporty car sect at parties, how he would often laugh inside when conversations would arise about the incredible acceleration of a particular sports car or formula racer. "Poor souls" he would think, they have no comprehension of what acceleration is until they sit behind the wheel of a top fueler. Busby would often defend the merits and skills of his former drag racing cohorts to those from other racing disciplines.

The yellow Corvair of Tom Sturm, depicted above, was cool in that the featured a texture surface simulating vinyl. Bob-Jet Car-Smith drove it
