Took me a week to look at all this! Thanks for all the great pics and stories. Anybody got a shot of Mike Duffy's Austin? He made National Dragster about 1980ish for cutting a perfect light at the Div. 1 bracket finals. The pic showed his wheels in the air with the third yellow and the green on at the same time.

Frank I was at that Indy event when the Chicago Fire Launched off the line and took a bit of a left hander and as he was coming down he stabbed the loud pedal again and launched into the retaining wall right where it curves sending him up and over for a half track top side slide. It was crazy and happened so fast.
    THIS THREAD IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

The driver is Tom Ferrero. A few years later while driving the Campos' brothers follow up version of Low Blow, suffered through a horrific engine fire, resulting in severe 3rd degree burns. What made it unique was that Ferrero healed without resorting to skin graphs. His miraculous (spl) recovery earned him an article in the New England Journal of Medicine. And once healed, he went back to driving. Now thats tough!

The caption is hard to read so here it is:

Ron Dudley's funny car explodes in a fireball as he crosses the finish line at Indianapolis Raceway Park during qualifying for the 33rd running of the U.S. Nationals in 1987. Dudley escapes serious injury.
