I am not sure if this is HAMB related so forgive me please.

When did redline tires come about and how long did the trend run?

Many musclecars came factory with Redlines.......starting in 1965 when they were released, along with Bluestreaks.....

My '68 Charger R/T listed Redlines as standard, with white's a no cost option.

Just curious. My Dad has a stock 74 Stingray and is looking for ways to make it stand out more. No billet either. I was going to suggest red line tires with his stock ralleys or with some Cragar SS but it may not be period correct. Although some thin whites might look good too. Right now he has Radial BFG with raise white letters.

I am also looking at hot rod trends from the early 70's as well.

redlines are cool. I'm thinking about running them on my 49 with American 5-spokes. I'm goting for a 60's HOT ROD look.

I love redlines thought about running em on my olds. Is there a good source for them that isn't expensive because they seem to be pretty pricey.

Oh and what about blue lines? I think they were called Blue Streaks right? when did they come out and what is the history of them?

Looks great Muttley! Let's see the Comet. Love redlines and mags...

My buddy had a '65 Caliente 2dr HT with a 289/2bbl in high school. He used to burn out of the parking lot with the column shift in first til the RPMs were way up there, then up for second and a massive one-wheel screech, then third. We all thought that was so cool, until the day he went for the big third gear shift and the whole damn shifter broke off in his hand. Man that was funny.

There was a factory tire that had a red and a white stripe. 1965-66 Thunderbird, I believe.
Diamondback Classics sells them and red and blue and gold lines...

    1964 Pontiac GTO

    Standard Equipment includes
: 389 engine w/1 - 4bbl and 325 horsepower, 3 speed stick with Hurst Shifter, Heavy-duty clutch, heavy-duty springs, shocks, stabilizer bar, special 7.5 x 14 red-line tires (rayon cord whitewalls optional at no extra cost), 14 x 6JK wide-rim wheels, high capacity radiator, declutching fan, high capacity battery, chromed air-cleaner, rocker covers, oil filler cap, bucket seats, standard axle ratio 3.23:1 (3.08, 3.36*, 3.55* to 1 available at no extra cost).

It follows then that they were available by August 1963. Probably quite a bit earlier, too. Car manufacturers are followers, not leaders, so I would tend to think that they had to be "in style" before they were used on the GTO.

  20. Am I the only one around here who is nuts or did Pirelli offer a redline in the early 60's? The first redlines I remember were on the 1964 GTO. They were optional on one of my 67 Olds 442s. They were very popular at GM and MoPar from 1966-1970. At that point Goodyear had the Poly-Glas GT available which was a great tire but not a redline.

Plymouth offered Goodrich Blue Streaks on the 1965 Barracuda Formula S. Someone offered goldlines but I can't ever remember actually seeing them.

Had factory redlines on my 69 Barracuda Formula S. Wanted blue streaks because the car was teal, but could not get them. You can get them from Coker Tire or Diamond Back Classics.

I have redlines on my 60 ventura. Not an option back in the day but they still look good...in my opinion.

As i remember it the 64 Goat was the first American car to come with red lines. There may have been some foreign cars that had them before that. They were a short term fad in my area. My memory says that they were more of an import performance tire... Jaguars and TR-3 s. Wide oval white letter tires were more popular for the muscle cars and the red lines died out pretty quickly.

  30. I think Triumph used the a 15" Michelin redline on the TR-250 and the TR-6.
