i know this won't be everyones cup of tea,,but i like the way they look,,,,
my fictional "build year" is 1959 (the year i was born),,,fins were everywhere,,,my idea was partially inspired by dick del curtos bailon built shoebox (apparently built before bailon got all silly with the scoops).....my buddy vic and i traded some parts, and i ended up with these fins. they are from a 57 studebaker..i trimmed them down, shortened them by about nine inches, and tacked them to the shoebox,,,here are a few pictures of how they look so far,,,,

I generally don't like the proportions of the '50 coupe, but with fins, it looks so right! When you get them all smoothed in, post pics please.

i think you nailed it and the build date is right on the money. i have been looking for a set of '57 lincoln quarters and headlights for my next shoebox.
my '49 is going to be a mild one compared to yours. the major body mods will be a 5" chop (already done) and 55 headlights, merc opening, shaved nosed and decked, and 56 dodge grille. '56 chevy trim will separate the two tone candy brandywine flake and champagne pearl bottom.

i cant wait to see what the car looks like with color on it. you are doing an excellent job, and if you get bored you can come over here and give me a hand.....................

damnit! lately i've been drawing/thinking of taillight/rearend ideas for my 50 and have been seriously debating fins exactly like those...i do believe however, that they do fit better on a coupe. Looks awesome! wow, this is one of my favorite builds that is going on...what are you doing for taillights?

the taillights are still up in the air,,i have several ideas,,,the first would be using the stock taillights with lee lenses and canting them similar to the headlights and fins,,,,another idea is some sort of round bullet shaped lens to mimic the kaiser guard bullets,,maybe early 50s pontiac or maybe mid 50s olds?...59 caddys would be period correct for my build, but in my opinion are too small and WAY overdone....,,have someother ideas too involving expanded metal (the same as in my grille)......still trying to work out the details..

it was easier than i thought it was gonna be,,,its only tacked at this point,,but it'll need very little to make it work,,there are some thin spots on the donor fins that i'll probably have to replace with some new metal,,not too many though

Puts a different look on a '49-'51 Ford. Everyone seems to be cjhopping them and slamming the crap out of them lately. This gives something different to look at. Keep us posted as you finish it.
